Actually this is one area FIFA doesn't have it's thumb on the scale. The rankings are purely mechanical.
The Wall Street Journal had another of its daily classics, on how normally the Journal hates taxes but it's OK if the payroll tax cut isn't extended. Because you know unlike those other tax cuts that must be extended or else, this one affects the neediest the most and they don't vote Republican so screw them. Well alright that wasn't technically the paper's reason, I forgot the actual nonsense, but that was the reason alright.
