The Dean Problem

    You hear it all the time: Dean is "unelectable".

    You might be wondering, as I have, why all these professionals are willing to go so far out on a limb and make that sort of unequivocal statement.

    The answer is simple, and it's in the numbers.

    See this poll from USA today:

    It's got some interesting stuff, but don't get waylaid by the President's numbers, good as they seem.

    Instead, glance through them and check everybody's "unfavorable" number.

    Dean's is not only highest, it's skyrocketing. And any pro will tell you that "undecided" is fine with them - they can work with it. "Unknown" in many ways is even better.

    "Unfavorable" is a killer - if people don't like sopmebody, they seldom change their minds. And as more and more normal people (ie. People who are not sitting around marinating themselves in a big stewpot of baselss hate for George Bush) find out about Howlin' Howars, the less they like him.
