I just can't believe you would actually allow a word like "danged" in the title of this thread. How dare you? I have a family. Think of the children!
I previously presented a thought I had where Randy (the guy under the bridge) would either be the Match Ignitor or Hometown Hero. Apparently the dude is so humble he's refused any/all anything... someone's extra ticket, etc. I still think he'd make an excellent Match Ignitor or Hometown Hero, but if he doesn't want it, such is life.
It was in a game thread. And it kinda became the HiR game thread until the cancer was excised and put into this petri dish. And yes, we have too much time on our hands.
Does she live in Columbus? I get the feeling that a lot of them live in the area, at least on a part-time basis and they get scheduled when they're in Columbus on their own dime. Maybe I'm wrong, but it's just a feeling. Say they have an OSU basketball player do it. They're gonna it during the school year and probably not so in June or July when the player could be back home. Where did I hear that the Match Ignitor was/is intended to be a "link to the community", "community icon" or whatever the phrase was? In other words, not necessarily a link to the team like a former player or FO member. With that said, they better start honoring the team's history this season...it's the 30th season after all. It feels like they haven't done much. Sidenote: Someone of relative importance (Nordecke Board member? FO member?) did say something about how the 2024 season was supposed to integrate non-military into the Hometown Hero ceremony, but we see how much that happened.
The Hard Hat Hero was supposed to fill that role. It died as soon as the Nordecke formed a team to start identifying community leaders that would be a good fit. There's a reason I keep hammering the Crew marketing team for being lazy.
https://www.nhl.com/bluejackets/news/columbus-blue-jackets-25th-season-logo-unveil The audacity of a Columbus sports team to recognize a milestone year in its history, can you even imagine? I guess we just need to hope that one day the Crew will have the volume of achievements and club legends that the Blue Jackets will be celebrating.
To be fair, we were due a 25th anniversary gift and then the season tickets were refunded, so we never got our gift.
