Point is he has a Cincy tie. Great match ignitor for sure. But use a different match. Also, I’m not trolling and you can piss right off for saying that. This front office constantly demonstrates they don’t think this shit through.
There are plenty of Columbus lifers you can promote that aren't actively advertising your competition for consumer dollars. Some of them even played, supported, or worked for the Crew!
Agreed , but having Pipa or any former Crew player who played in the rivalry would make the most sense
Idk I don’t love the idea but Archie is definitely a Columbus till I die kinda guy without doubt he loves this city. I first met him at a prep rally at Eastmoor as a 3rd grader we walked down the street from Fairmoor Elementary. I actually was filmed and was on TV. I have no idea where to find it but the video has to exist somewhere on VHS.
Guys, if you don't think Archie Griffin is Columbus enough to be a part of a Crew pregame skit, you're never going to be happy.
You know what the overwhelming majority of these people have in common? They're in town a lot. I know the pre-match ignitor thing is the single most important tradition to ever happen in Crew history, but do you really think it's of the utmost importance to select a former Crew player and fly them in from wherever they are in the world on a weekly basis, pay for their travel and accommodations and make a big show of it, all so they can be on the big screen for fifteen seconds? And do you think all of these legends just have nothing better to do than to give up a weekend just to make the trek for it? Are people really of the opinion that John DeBrito makes things more interesting than Archie Griffin?
It's not that he's not Columbus enough. It's that this is a missed opportunity to get the team's history front and center. What are Brian Bliss or Robert Warzycha or even McBride up to these days?
I'm not 100%, but I believe Robert lives in the area. Yes, he moved back to Poland after he got fired, but he's definitely been in LDC once or twice. I ran into Konrad last fall and I can't remember what he said about his dad when I asked how he was doing.
Brian Maisonneve and Tom Presthus are in the "obviously" category. Matt Napoleon also lives in the area, last I heard.
To whom? Do people really believe that casuals who show up to games hear the name of the pre-match ignitor and then immediately pull out their phones and Google them so that they might become more embedded in Crew lore?
My whole plan for 2027 is to have a STC reunion, but like how many people remember that team. Josh, Afful, Pipa, Pedro probably. No one really ever talks about Zardes. I was thinking about the other players on that team and most are still kicking it or retired this year, so 2027 might be early.
I’m with you 100% imagine having players like Mensah, Afful, Josh Williams etc… I just feel like we’re going about it all wrong
