As of 6:30 PM central time, 12/1, the 96ers are up by three.

Obviously, the people have spoken. We have a mandate.

True. But how many of these teams have "96" as part of their team logo?

 

More importantly, how many of them have 96 as part of their name?

 

Precisely. They don't because it's stupid. Really people, name one thing about the year 1996 that's special about FCD. Maybe if we'd won MLS Cup that year or something...but no. Nothing. Zilch.

The name of the team is FC Dallas. Why should the forum be named differently?

BTW, is anyone going to go back and take out any votes by posters who don't have FCD or Dallas Burn as their team? I see several under the FC Dallas 96 category and only one under FC Dallas.

 

i saw 4 people who i didnt recognize from this forum or had some other team as their favorite(mostly chitcago) that voted sans 96 and 3 that voted pro 96

 

That's not special to Dallas. There are 8 other teams still in this league that started the same year.

1996 is more unique to Chicago than us in that they're the only ones who DIDN'T start then. And since there are 2 new expansion teams next year, that's not even true, so we're back to 1996 being MEANINGLESS except to the league as a whole. Hey, that's it -- let's call it "MLS 96". We could make a new logo and everything!

Dallas Burn 96 is pretty lame.

However, since HSG decided to go euro-poseur on us and call the club "FC Dallas", why not add a German flair and call the team FC Dallas 96?

The point, of course, is that if enough of us start calling the club FC Dallas 96, there's a decent chance down the road that the club will change its official name to "FC Dallas 96"

And my point is why the hell would you want that? Nothing special happened in 1996. It sounds DUMB.

Oh, and it makes you look like you don't even know what your own team is named.

 

What do you mean nothing special happened in 1996? That's when we first got an MLS team in Dallas! To me that's special. To you, a relative newcomer, I guess not.


IMHO,

FC Dallas = DUMB
FC Dallas 96 = not quite as DUMB

 

Along with 9 other cities, 2 of which lost theirs. And pull the newbie card if you like, but it still doesn't change the fact that HSG named the team FC Dallas - not FC Dallas 96. FC Dallas may be dumb, and FC Dallas 96 not as dumb* IYHO, but it's what they picked. We've drifted from the REAL point, and that is that the forum name should match the team name.




*But it is dumb. more dumb.

 

trust me on this one we do not want our club to be reffered to as the FC Dallas 96ers. This will happen. Soccer moms will do it !

 

Two points...three, I just added an additional...

First - I'm not a zealot either way, so don't take my next two points as complaining or anything.

Second - I think your math may be a bit off - there are several more non-traditional Dallas fans/regular posters in the anti-96 log than the pro-96 log - and I don't believe that all the votes show up, either.

Third - and closest to home => I don't have FCD in my profile, I have USMNT and MLSHouston - but I am an avid FCD soccer fan, a somewhat regular poster for about two years now, and a season ticket holder. I'm not sure that my vote should be nixed just because I don't put FCD in my profile.

But at the end of the day, I'll be posting either way, I just like one better. I'd suggest the adding or omitting of a '96 on the forum title probably shouldn't be eliciting this much visceral emotional reaction. If only the 'rebranding' had actually caused this much hoopla among the DFW public...

 

I really meant posters that didn't have FCD or Burn in thier profile AND who we didn't recognize. I counted you as someone who I've seen posting on here in the past. At the time I checked, and it was ONLY a spot check, I counted a few more pro-96'ers that were non-fans/regulars then anti's.....but I didn't really check every single name. I just think this should be a FCD fanbase decision....either way.
