Do you think Clint likes the nickname Cletus? Did Charles Barkley like being called the Round Mound of Rebound?

Yeah that was pretty funny. The MLS Cup needs one - i nominate Veronica Paysee.

I think putting Eskandarian on the roster is asinine. He hasn't done jack in this league besides getting a concussion.

Obviously the refs were told to clamp down recently. I'm fine with that. The curve will come down once the players figure out. Course, some won't (Dema). I'd like to see someone get a 2nd yellow for dissent - which is one of the few things that has improved in MLS this season (less dissent, I mean).

    What's MLL?

Major Lacrosse League? If so, we don't need them (nothing against Lacrosse, I love watching it, but...)

Outdoor Lacrosse. You people south of the Mason Dixon wouldn't know anything about that.

I'm amazed that indoor lacrosse seems to be working out in Denver...so far from it's power base.

Well, Maryland is south of the Mason Dixon line, and lacrosse is HUGE here. 3 of the final four in the NCAA's are from south of the Mason Dixon line, Johns Hopkins, Maryland, and Virginia. Oh, Towson was also in the quarterfinals. That's Towson, Maryland, you know.;)

I thought MLL might be Major Legaue Lacrosse but then I thought those guys don't have 2 nickels to rub together.

And getting business advice from him would be like getting advice from the guy who placed an ad in the paper saying "Earn $5,000 - $10,00 per month working from home. No experience necessary".

Why would anyone be against another stadium tenant? You think that 20 dates a year is a viable business model? More tenants, more rent, more revenue, happier Phil & Lamar, more new investors. It's not like it's the NFL, tearing the turf up.

They're getting some TV exposure and sponsorship now. (http://www.anheuser-busch.com/news/BudLTLacrosse03.htm)

They pay peanuts, so it's not a particularly risky venture.

In Rochester, they're part of the Rhinos' stadium deal. (http://www.10nbc.com/index.asp?template=item&story_id=7116)

The main drawback I'd see: Lacrosse really tears up the field around the goal mouth. It was noticeable when the Carolina Courage played their first season at Fetzer Field, which was also used by UNC's lacrosse teams at the same time. It's probably not quite as bad as sharing with a baseball team, but it might be at least as bad as sharing with a football team.

"GONE ALL PEAR-SHAPED: In probably the most disgusting footie-related story I can remember, fans of Aris Thessaloniki reportedly smeared a black and white dog with tar and lit it on fire after the Greek Cup final. The dog was apparently abused because its colors are also those of PAOK, which won the match, 1-0. According to the report, an animal welfare group found and treated the dog for burns and an injured eye."

I tell ya, I wish MLS had all the tradition, fan support, and die-hard fan base all those Euro leagues have...

I absolutely love the idea of MLL teaming up w/ MLS & WUSA on stadium deals. If that's what it takes to get a couple of extra SSSs built, then I'm all for it. That's another 15 or so dates for a stadium.

As for wearing out the area around the goal mouth, isn't there some technology that sews in some artificial turf in w/ real grass? Or was I simply hallucinating?

FWIW, the Mason-Dixon Line runs right through New Jersey & Pennsylvania - not exactly Johnny Reb territory.

And while I'm on that: Hey you ************ing southerners, you lost the ************ing Civil War! Deal with it.

And the people in Chicago know all about it? Too bad that Baltimore (which is south of the mason-dixon line) won the MLL Championship last year and is playing host to the college lax final four. What the heck does Chicago know about lax?

And just to chime in...imagine 3 teams using the same field. Maybe with all of that revenue, they could hire an hellacious grounds crew. That's what it would take.

Sure - its a fine idea. I just don't think the lacrosse guys will be able or willing to go 1/2's or 1/3's with MLS and WUSA.

That's in the range of $5 million to $20 million, depending on public funding, stadium quality and if WUSA is involved.

I don't see MLL or WUSA really being willing and able to chip in. If I were MLS though, I would sit down and listen.

I think the plan would / should be that AEG / HSG / new MLS owner should build and own the stadia, with MLL and WUSA as tenants (not co-owners). If Phil or Lamar decides that it's a good investment to put money into MLL or WUSA, that's their choice.

If the MLL and WUSA dates keep HS and college griddie out, then the field will actually be better with them. The field will be used by something, so they may be the lesser of the evils. And maybe they can help get votes for govt approvals.

  18. They could just use fieldturf so they dont have to worry about messing up the grass. Thats been a 100% better solution for the metros than the grass field they had.

Clint has the name "Cletus" tattoo'd on hid back.

actually, the M-D line turns south when it hits Delaware. The M-D line was/is the line that divided Maryland from Pennsylvania (Delaware was part of Penn at the time).

interestingly enough, South Jersey is Johnny Reb territory. Pretty ironic isn't it?
