Wow. Marc Connolly writes up another great piece, this time it's no-gloves Carrieri about his team.

I just didn't want you guys to miss a good interview. You don't hear this stuff much...

It's not all non-Crew. Carrieri said this at the end:

QUOTE Carrieri: At this point in my career, I like watching Cunningham come off the bench and score goals. Last week, he comes in for an injured Edson Buddle, tears somebody up on the right side and puts it across (for a goal). Why aren't coaches in this league taking their best eleven and putting them on the field regardless of where they're being played? If you have to change your formation for a player to play, then that's what needs to be done.

For Jeff Cunningham to be on the bench, it's insane. With his speed and his dangerous abilities, it's absolutely ridiculous. Edson Buddle should also be on the field. So should Brian McBride. They need to find a way to get them all on the field. Sometimes it's harder to do it than just to say it, but I think it's fun to watch Cunningham to just light guys up off the bench. And he said it right - that they have a lot of depth on the team. But why if a guy scores a goal to win a game does he not play? Cunningham scored the goal against the MetroStars, so his confidence has to be up a bit. Why not start him the next game? END QUOTE.

It appears he has a self image problem. I hope he stays in Denver.

Let's not forget that Carrieri thinks he's every bit as good as Ruiz and Twellman. Not only is he an over-achieving average player, he's not very good as assessing talent.

    Dear Chris;

Thanks for the input, but we're all set for coaches this year.

We'll keep your application on file.

Anybody get the feeling Hankenson isn't going to be around for much longer? First the Grimandi issue, now Carrieri coming out with his opinion that no one on the team, knows what their role is. Granted, Carrieri is being an ass, but I don't think he would come out like this unless he knew that some of his other teamates fealt the same way.

Carrieri is an ass! He always has been, always will be. I've never liked him from the moment I first heard him speak. If you remember, this was the tart that said when he was drafted that he would come to San Jose and win them a title. I believe he was traded the same season, before SJ went on to win the title. In fact, I don't think he even broke the starting 11 very often.

Then he goes to Colorado and the attitude remains... he needs to check his ego and get a grip on what being a team player is all about. He doesn't have the skill or talent to be a one-man superstar.

I don't know why, but I keep thinking about this jerk.

I can't believe anybody has little little class.

Look at some of the tidbits:

What Crew player would you let get away with making any ONE of these statements without cutting his ass? This has to be the biggest asshole in MLS.

Is it me or does this guy think he's in the WWE?

And his assessment of Cunningham shows how little he can judge talent? Jeff is most dangerous off the bench, not as a starter.

NOTE: This is not an attempt to start another Jeff Cunningham thread.

This Carrieri appears to be in the ABMOD/Franchino mold.

I think it's realistic to say that if Cunningham or some other player were to have criticized Fitzgerald in this manner everyone would have just used it to corroborate what we all thought. He wouldn't have been cut as a result. Fined probably, but not cut.

Wasn't John Harkes very outspoken about his Revolution teammates and Fernando Clavijo?

Carrieri doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Harkes.

Love him or hate him, John Harkes has sure as ************ done a lot more to earn the right to criticize a coach than Chris Carrieri.

"Right" to criticize, huh? Does this mean I can't say that I think Ray Hudson is a moron?

I seem to remember an incident with some coach of some team and some player named Harkes just before some tournament in France in 1998......

Stopper - In case you didn't realize. You're a sh|t football player like the rest of us, you won't be playing in MLS, you're not employed by MLS, the only way you get anywhere near MLS is by purchasing a ticket. Your critiques of Ray Hudson or any professional soccer player or coach are neither news worthy nor controvesial.

Sampson was a control freak and was woefully underqualified for the position he held....and, like him or not, Harkes was correct in his criticism of Sampson. Should he have done so in public? Certainly not.

I have always hated Carrieri. It just seems like he has a classic little guy complex. I don't care though I am all for these interviews though. In fact I hope he continues to do somewhat well, then maybe he can get traded to another team and try to implode them from the locker room also. I have no worries about this guy cause I know the Crew wouldn't touch him with a ten foot poll. And even if he does score 10 goals a season the next few season for however many teams he plays for he will harm the team(s) more than help due to his ego.

That wasn't the point. The point was that Archer said

Having the right to do it wasn't anywhere in my arguement. What I said was pretty one dimensional.

Harkes has done the same thing with the New England team and Clavijo.

I also don't think that any of us would have condemned a Crew player if he would have spoken out about Fitz in his final 2 years.
