Well I got bored today and was curious on the team's won/loss record when Chino starts as opposed to when he doesn't start..plus how many goals the teams scores and gives up in the same situations. These stats probably don't mean much..but they are at least interesting in the fact that in the 3 games that Chino didn't start we are undefeated and our goals per game avg. is higher and goals against avg. is lower.

    Games where Chino Alegria starts:
    Games played: 6
    Goals scored: 5
    Record: 0-3-3
    Goals per game: .83
    Goals against: 8
    goals against per game: 1.33

    Games where Chino doesn't start:
    Games played: 3
    Goals Scored: 3
    Record: 1-0-2
    Goals per game: 1.00
    Goals against: 1
    Goals Against per game: .33

    Conspiracy Theory

    Consider this:

    Detective40oz: Date Registered: 16 Jun 2000

2000 : Alegria received approval for his P-1 visa and was allocated to United as a junior international.

Makes you wonder, are they the same person.... :)

    Re: Conspiracy Theory

If I were Chino I don' thtink I would post stats that would show the team is much better with me absent from the starting lineup, and anyways I'm almost a foot taller than him :)

    Now that's just goofy. :)

I've really wanted to see Chino do well. He seems like he works hard every game, but just looks out of his league.

I don't see any comparison with Prideaux, but regardless I don't see why anyone would be complaining about him. Our defense has been pretty good this season, and he's done well.

Like most soccer stats, these are worthless, especially since our whole team sucks a lot.

And this is why I could never boo the guy. I'll never forget when he scored a goal - I believe it was 2 seasons ago - and immediately leapt the ad boards to celebrate with La Norte. It was like he was saying, "I'm one of you, and I haven't forgotten."

Does he belong in the starting lineup? Clearly not. Should he even be playing? I'm not sure.

But do I love the guy? Yes. He's living the dream of all fans.

My comment about taking out Prideaux was sarcastic. Don't take out Chino when our forwards cant score goals, take out the forwards. Thats why we suck. Besides the announcer last week saying ALLLLLLLEEEEEEEEGRIA was the basis of my drinking game. If you took him out I would be left left with silence....pure silence :(

That kid was everywhere tonight -- he was ALWAYS available as an outlet for the defenders and midfielders. And he busted up the Crew attack as well (ok, make that the Crew "attack").

    Great game.

Not a huge disparity... (I'm not saying Chino should start, but the statistics about him don't prove much.)

It was against Tampa Bay, after the US-Honduras qualifier. And I completely agree, though I do think a bit more of him than that.

Ah, I wasn't the only person that saw this then.

I love how, regardless of how Chino does, the reaction of this board is that he was terrible. If Chino scored a hat trick against the Revs, all on long range shots, would anyone notice?

It's well known that I have a bias towards Chino, but it's not so strong that I won't admit when he's done badly. The opposite doesn't seem to hold true for an unfortunate number of regular posters here. This week Chino was very good...played it simple, was always there as an outlet, and helped amplify the Crew's struggle in midfield. You can't ask much more of a defensive midfielder, folks.

At the beginning of the season, Chino was starting for one reason: Nelsen was playing center back. When Ivanov became fit, Nelsen moved up to defensive midfield and Chino was rightfully on the bench. Ryan Nelsen is heads and shoulders (literally and figuratively) above Chino as a defensive midfielder, but that's more a testament to Nellie's ability rather than Chino being a poor player. You can pose some questions...would Namoff be better there? Perhaps. He did pretty well as a rookie in a similar role. Would Carroll be better? Well, no one has seen Carroll play against MLS quality opponents, so there's no way to answer that.

No one seems to be making a case for anyone else, just calling for Chino to sit the bench. It's easy to spot problems...fixing them is a whole different thing. I realize none of this will stop the Chino bashing, but at least we could see some debate on who would replace him.

Yes, I am this high and mighty all the time. My horse is very tall.

this was his best game, but on the whole, he back passes too much and gets dispossessed too often. But what can you do? Drink beer.

But we won, so clearly the problem all along was bobby. Just joking, don't kill me.

I posted earlier in this thread that I thought Chino was out of his league. So just to be fair, I wanted to post and say this recent game against Columbus was one of the best I've seen him play. He looked really good in that Richie Williams role, basically just fetching the ball for Etcheverry and slowing up any counter attacks. Plus, he sneaked into the offense a got off two decent cracks at the goal.

Great game, Chino! I hope this continues.

I agree with those that said Chino had a great game. A lot of people, IMO, don't see the little things that he does. He runs his tail off, keeps possesion nicely, and is our best option at D Mid when Nellie isn't here.
But a lot of people seemingly get a disliking for someone, and simply won't let it go no matter what happens. Some people hate Etch and want him gone, after he's led the team in scoring the last two years. Some people want Hudson fired when our forwards can't score. Some people hate Hristo because the AU kids leg was broken.
They won't change their minds. But that's what these boards are for is it not?
    cheers,
    jeff
