So you’re telling me Lebron had two terrible games in high school but still turned out great? But it was against DJ Strawberry and Mater Dei his senior year. DJ Strawberry was notably the son of Darryl Strawberry and a pretty good defender for Maryland at the college level (and briefly played in the NBA). He did a pretty good job defending Lebron when they played in high school which I mostly chalk up to Lebron not seeing a lot of defenders at the high school level with that level of length and athleticism and it being an adjustment.
Not the best tournament for Cavan Sullivan and now it's likely over Philadelphia Take On Flamengo In The Semifinals - Important note Cavan Sullivan sent off with a straight red meaning he could be out for two games pic.twitter.com/W6q1AGRlCD— Youth Soccer Central (@yscentral) April 5, 2024
Seriously, he'll be fine. He's had a good season overall. I think too that GA Cup is very overrated in general. I promote it a lot because there's generally more interest in it than a random game in February and I'll take what I can get, but there's a full season of games to be played. This is like two weeks in a tough climate on bad fields playing basically every day or every other day. Speaking now about USSF, I wish there was more of an emphasis on the full season and not so much on who performs well at these big tournaments. They put a lot of emphasis on these tournaments (Next Fest, GA Cup, Playoffs) in their player selections, and I feel like sometimes it ends up shooting themselves in the foot by doing so.
🔵🇺🇸 American wonderkid Cavan Sullivan to Manchester City, here we go!Deal agreed as revealed weeks ago and now all the documents being signed with Philadelphia Union. Fee close to $1m + many add-ons.2009 talent will join #MCFC in the next years.Exclusive story, confirmed. pic.twitter.com/vFw6ZP0M6X— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) April 6, 2024 Deal about to be signed it seems.
Cavan is playing right now in the GA cup final on MLS pass. First half is about to end, Philly up 1-0 and watching Cavan he just creates a ton of chances and puts in dangerous balls.
One also must consider that he's 14, playing up and at the same time working on the combined ManCity / Philly Union deal. Has to affect him some.
CHAMPS! AGAIN! 🏆 HUGE congrats to our @phlunionacademy U17s for going back to back and winning #GACup! #DOOP | #BabySnakes pic.twitter.com/7r00DnLRDw— Philadelphia Union (@PhilaUnion) April 8, 2024
Hey Don! What has Cavan done that you are declaring victory? What has happened that is contrary to any of my views? You have done a great job of help positioning this whole thing as the best possible outcome is that this kid meets the expectations you guys have set out for him. Id wager against your assessment of an MLS player every time and the leagues ability to squander talent. The idea a 14 yo playing with semi-pro level grown men is going to be ideal for his development is funny stuff.
I simply said that I believe, and that his family might also believe, that being with the Philadelphia Union for the start (ages 14-16, most likely) of his professional career would be a fine way to begin that career. To say that you poo-pooed this notion would be putting it lightly; however, it did turn out to be correct. Your second paragraph isn't completely clear to me. What does it mean when you say, "Id wager against your assessment of an MLS player every time and the leagues ability to squander talent?" I am curious -- what do you think he should be doing for these next couple of years if being with Philly will be detrimental to his career? I do also want to be clear that I don't actually have expectations for Cavan at this point. I mean, I guess I expect him to be a first team professional at some point, but, beyond that, I'm just excited to watch how he progresses.
honestly not sure what the implication is here Mathis Albert and Cavan Sullivan are the only two players born in 2009 to be moved up an age group for the United States National Team… They both also have EU passports 😳 Mathis Albert (France/German) Cavan Sullivan (German) pic.twitter.com/Rjhzbtw1Cl— Footy Access (@footy_access) April 18, 2024
It’s an effort to generate traffic by whoever tweeted that. I know nothing about Albert, but Sullivan has been part of the usmnt for awhile, and turned down the chance to go to Germany at 16. There’s no indication whatsoever that he’s waffling on his commitment to the usmnt.
