He also has 2 threads now. A two-thread player before his fifteenth birthday. Have we seen that before. That exceeds even my extravagantly high expectations.
You've been here long enough to remember when every thread on the board was about Freddy Adu, whether it was titled as such or not. Cavan can't now take one honor from Freddy. He won't pass him for youngest-ever goalscorer in MLS. Freddy scored for DCU while still U15. 14 years 320 days. [The youngest goalscorer this year has been Julian Hall. Unfortunately, three of the top six youngest USMNT-eligible goalscorers are Buck, Vargas, and Esmir.] A stat that surprised me about Cavan. I thought he and Quinn playing together would be unusual, but its not as unusual as I thought. They are the 19th pair of brothers to play in a match together. We almost got another recent USYNT one as well. Gabriel and Nick Slonina for the Fire. Most of the brother pairs have very short tenures together. One or two seasons. It looks possible that Alex and Christian Roldan are on pace to do better than that.
I still say Freddy’s unbreakable, and possibly unmatchable, record is that he played in THREE under 20 cups…and didn’t even play in the one with his own age cohort! In today’s soccer, no way a player goes to 3 of them. If he had played in that last one, his fourth, that would be Johnny Vander Meer territory in terms of unbreakable records. (Vander Meer pitched two straight no hitters. Nobody is ever gonna pitch 3, even if pitchers start throwing more than 6 innings.)
No, I mean he was an 89 who play with the 83s, 85s, and 87s but not the 89s…he was in Europe by then and didn’t get released.
Here's another stat about Freddy that I like. First player to ever score a hat-trick at both the U17 and U20 World Cups. 2003 U17 World Cup against South Korea 2007 U20 World Cup against Poland I don't actually know if somebody did it since. I bet he probably is the only one to ever do it. Players just don't have a lot of games in which to do it. And the elite players like Pulisic often don't go to the U20WC. If Cavan's career goes like we want it to, who knows how many actual youth events he'll be released for.
In some random Friday news: Cavan Sullivan is now a spokesperson for Aéropostale.Aeropostale mentioned that Cavan “embodies the youthful energy and style that Aéropostale is known for.”Additionally, Sullivan commented on the opportunity: “It’s awesome to represent a brand… pic.twitter.com/Vf5ydrMuwH— José Roberto Nuñez (@JoserNunez91) October 4, 2024
I'm sure he'll have better days. Philly 2 was more dangerous after he went off. 1842992247752519943 is not a valid tweet id
Stop it! Don't question any of this. Philadelphia knows exactly what they are doing and when in doubt Man City has their back.
I’m assuming Philly2’s season operates separately from Philly1’s? In other words, if Philly1 were to make it into the playoffs, that has no effect on the games Philly2 plays. I’m hopeful that Cavan gets more minutes with Philly1 during preseason and comes on regularly as a sub at the start of the season. Getting some starts next season would be great, but I’m not expecting any.
Imagine making all sorts of unhinged proclamations months ago only to see them be completely exposed as nonsense in the meantime. I would think one in this situation might be pretty desperate to latch on to something -- anything -- that would make them look sane. The facts are: a. Cavan's development is occurring at a very rapid pace, and b. Philly have balanced his minutes in order to get him a good number of minutes while also getting him exposure to the first team environment.
How can you be this clueless. Nothing has changed. He has accomplished nothing. Anything short of being a world class player will be failure relative the silly hype the kid has gotten. Nothing was unhinged of acknowledging the risk everyone involved is taking for little apparent benefit.
The risk being that he flew around too much? Also I think you’d feel better if you weren’t so overtly negative about all of this soccer stuff. People are excited about a young prospect that’s were the game is today. You’re right that it’s maybe not good for him, but you seem to be proposing the Streisand Effect, if people tried to prevent others from talking about something they’d likely do it more. I’m sure you’re coming from a good place, but I think the people around here would like you better if you weren’t like this. I certainly hope you’re not like this with the people you love.
??? They had him with the mother ship as an emergency sub and/or because of the match was a blow out, he could get some developmental minutes. He played for II because that’s where he needs to get most of his actual game time right now. Seems pretty straightforward.
Either you understand the risks or you won't admit they exist. I'd feel better if people on here would tell me that MLS and Garber's job is "exploit American soccer for the owner's game" and then turn around see exactly that while some clueless soccer acts he has clue about anything sports related. MLS has been ********ing over Americans since before the league started. Players development repeatedly stalls and then all men's NT's are used to market the league. I dont give a damn about these shitty people. Why would anyone listen to guy that said the exact thing about Andrew Carleton? Probably just because he believes the same stupid shit they do. I suspect absent injuries that circle jerk will continue for quite some time and in the end, this kid will be at best an average USMNT player. I look forward to following the CJ and mocking the the no nothing soccer dads that learned what little they know from MLS and folks like Doyle.
There's a line in the movie Burn After Reading, that guy's a mormon compared to him we're all alcoholics If Cavan didn't want to take long distance flights he should've been born in Belgium
