Sorry, I thought you meant you heard that there's free agency in the actual deal, not the twitter rumor mill. I see Ives is suggesting maybe 28/8 has held, but I haven't seen anything specific.
If that were to be the case, there'd actually be a bigger gap between us and the top leagues in 2021 than there is now, as salaries overseas are going up far faster than that. And that would be bad, point blank. We have to at least be able to keep pace as if we can't, closing the gap isn't part of the conversation.
True but if we're maintaining the 5% increase for the next 7 years, it pretty much confirms the "A Top League by 2022" is pure fantasy. Not that I believed it would happen but I thought there would at least be some movement toward that. The only way it's going to happen with a 5% increase is with some massive off-budget type shenanigans that allow retention of HG players and the like.
So is that how it works, each team does a vote, and majority rules? So you end up with 20 votes? Not a majority vote across the entire league?
I would hope not. I'm ok with only a 15% jump for 2015, because the agreement came so late and it gives more time to clubs to properly build rosters. Those figures would be pretty far off we were lead to believe would be the case going forward by sources, so in that sense it would be underwhelming. I was hoping for $4.5m, better annual increases, more flexibility with fees and that new class of DP at least.
Probably because of pure happenstance. My guess is that this contract has been accepted by the players, but by a fairly low margin, and the numbers for and against are close enough that some teams are going to have more players against it than for it.
I expected at least enough for two impactful players per team. Unless there is a 4th DP of some kind call me dissappointed....and I have been pretty damn conservative about the league. Yes, I know over the years you can definitely get some quality, but I was hoping for maore of a front loaded amount that would have gotten us to five and a half/six mill. If the players gave up money for FA, I can see why quite a few players might be upset. This next week will be interesting, as we learn the details.
League is very prosperous.. Owners give players millions so that they may make billions.. Beckham still working on Miami deal.. Galaxy first to 10 titles.. San Jose goes from Smurfs to Snorks.. Tampax becomes a team sponsor, oddly the team they sponsor wears a red kit... Qatar WC cancelled
I could see it being higher, but that is what they got in 2010. They got a 10% immediate bump then too and that went up. We'll see.
I have started a new clean thread for discussing post signing details I am closing this one down thanks for playing.
My hunch is this: the vote was extremely close, and what we're seeing here is just random variation. With 13 teams it barely passed, and with 7 it narrowly failed. If that's the case, then it's not really indicative of anything except that it was a very close vote. This is, again, all hunch, and thus conjecture.
Could be the player reps (if he means the players from those teams voted against it. If we're talking owners, you got me how those 7 get in the same boat.
