This reminded me of this saying. I had heard it but I didn't know who it was attributed to. This of course refers to Lucas electrics.
Because I’m weird, I would totally be into this EV car/truck. Bare bones. No screens. You choose your add ons. Customizable. https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/...acked-ev-pickup-for-the-masses-022141712.html
It's kind of like building your own PC, instead of going supplicant to Apple for whatever over-priced collection of components they will deign to let you purchase
There's a real demand for cheap work vehicles. When I was buying my truck, I wished I had the option of buying a a new S10/Ranger/whatever with a six foot bed and an efficient, 4wd, 1.5-2 liter engine that gets 30+mpg while pushing the rear wheels. It would be an easy vehicle to make now, but for the regulatory environment - mainly safety. The Maverick is the closest thing to that right now, but the beds are short and the hybrid is FWD only, while gas is available with AWD. They're priced well compared to the absurd prices of other new cars, but a truck like I'm describing could be sold for half that with the older tech. I'd want AC, but if I could check the mechanical boxes, I wouldn't care if it had power anything or even a stereo.
Yeah. A smaller truck w/6-8’ bed and dual motor for front and rear with AC and heat. I’ll hand crank the damn windows up and down myself.
Oh, is this the crappy cars you used to drive thread? A lot of you are wayyyy fancier than I was. Learned to drive stick on an '83 Chevette (told the high school girls I had a red vette) Went to college in an '83 Chevy Cavalier, aka the "war wagon." https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1983-chevrolet-cavalier-2/ Mine was a darker "chocolate" brown, which is notwhat we called it. Yeah, not as nice as the Datsun or Jaguar people.
For me a usb port for my iPod is essential. Until the sad day when that old workhorse finally craps out.
I once had somebody read back a review to me where it said if you could close your eyes until you got into the truck, it is a great ride and extremely functional
I’m not a Ford guy. We’ve always bought Acura, Honda, Kia, etc. The great thing is many foreign makers manufacture cars in the US. Some things we are great at designing… see iPhones. Most popular phone in the world. Cars not so much.
Lexus/Toyota and Honda/Acura shouldn’t be different bars in that chart, they come off the same assembly lines.
My brother and I bought a model MG SA. It was a TD on steroids. Straight 6, dual overhead cams, dual downdraft SU carbs. built 1938. Same year as me. It belonged to some rich doctors chauffeur but itd been neglected for a few years after his demise. Cost an expensive £25 in 1958. Oh, not this one, this model. Had a ton of fun with this, never had a rag top for it, if it rained you drove faster. Best fun we had, my brothers bessie was Joey Fegan he and his group went to Hamburg with the Beatles and a couple of other groups We put an inverter in the boot with his amp, then we’d drive out onto Ainsdale beach. Joe would stand on the back with his guitar and start playing, pretty soon it was like Beach Blanket Bingo out there. Lots of good times with that old gal.
Anybody wanna buy an MG. Dad's been trying to sell. He's owned the car for 65 years, which is longer than he's been married, so my brother and I were, in effect, his third and fourth car. It's appraised at $22,000, he'd probably sell it for $12,000 - $14,000, to the right buyer. Which would be someone who is young enough to drive it for 20 years. And someone who is NOT going to scrap the car for parts (which may very well have been the fate of his Bugatti.)
My dad would say thank you. The car's not original. He added a blower and the wiring harnesses aren't restoration grade. He is proud of the 70 year old leather...
