This just says now little people actually care about the unhoused. It's not a Republican or Democrat issue. It is people actually not giving a ******** about the unhoused.
I camped up on the Humboldt coast a couple weeks ago and this cheery sign was in the campground. And also this one not too far away.
Fantastic. Outrageous. The Sacramento Sheriff says a suspect arrested for stabbing a man to death on Sunday previously committed two robberies (strikes/violent felonies) in 2024, but the courts gave him mental health diversion & he was released in November. Now he’s charged w/ murder. https://t.co/nbJcVDawDa— Bill Melugin (@BillMelugin_) May 21, 2025
I have a small pasture behind the house, and we get elk wandering though every now and then, usually in the spring.
I’ve seen them every other time I’ve visited the area, but none this time. One other time I went we were warned by a cyclist that a bull elk had chased him, and later we met up with that same big bull on the trail and decided that was a good spot to turn around. But that was later in the summer during mating season when they get more aggro.
Very on brand These are third world problems. https://t.co/dGTfjFcMit— Elizabeth Barcohana (@E_Barcohana) May 27, 2025
Is this MUTCD-compliant? (This might actually be the territory of @The Devil's Architect.) Somehow it doesn't seem the sign is compliant. https://ustrafficsystems.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/MUTCD-Signs-Poster.png
Amid Trump threats, California changes rules for upcoming Track & Field Championships. Under those rules, there could now be three 1st place winners in Long Jump, for example. One in the Boys competition, one in Girls, and one transgender student. https://www.kcra.com/article/califo...ampionship-transgender-trump-threats/64894427
why not? A high school in California invited an advocate for sadistic sexual practices to give a presentation in the cafeteria during lunchtime. CA Dems are not happy about oil refineries closing in this state As oil refiners plan to close, California Democratic lawmakers signal they’ve lost trust in state regulators in Gov. Newsom’s administration.CA will need more oil to be shipped in from other countries, meaning more air pollution, tighter fuels market, and higher gas prices. pic.twitter.com/NNqJa0sNRO— Ashley Zavala (@ZavalaA) May 29, 2025
It’s happening. California Democrats are eating each other. In the wake of expected gasoline price hikes due to overregulation (which will primarily harm low income residents), Democratic Assemblymember Jasmeet Bains urges California Air Resources Board Chair Liane Randolph to resign. “CARB needs a leader who understands that Californians are struggling to make ends meet,” she said in statement.
I will always be from the Orange Curtain, but I've lived in the Bay longer than anywhere else in my life. But it's really only now that I have East Bay pride! I've been told by some folks that grew up in San Mateo that we're basically the Inland Empire of Northern California. But you know what? ******** 'em.
from the NYTimes: This California Highway Is Now a Park. The transformation of a two-mile stretch of San Francisco’s Great Highway into a pedestrian promenade has set off a clash over the city’s anti-car culture. My late grandmother used to live in the Outer Sunset. It would be no exaggeration that there are times that you don't see the sun for three days. While the rest of the city may be nice and sunny, the fog in this part of the city lifts late, and rolls in early. One 4th of July, we got to the beach before noon to reserve a bonfire spot. Just before 3 pm, the thick fog layer offshore suddenly rolled in on us, just like in a movie. What started out as a nice sunny day turned into the coldest 4th of July ever. Pro tip: the best beach weather in the Outer Sunset happens during the 1st week of October, or thereabouts. Nice ,warm, and sunny weather. Unfortunately, it also means the start of the Santa Ana winds.
Speaking as a Peninsulite, there's this weird mental hurdle about crossing the bay. Oakland Airport is closer to my house than San Jose Airport, by driving distance, but for some reason we never consider flying out of Oakland when taking a short hop to LA or Sandy Eggo. But I would never compare the East Bay to the Inland Empire. Tracy - yes. Livermore - maybe. Oakland, Fremont, etc? Hell no.
I'm mid-peninsula, equidistant to SFO and SJC, OAK is about ten minutes farther and I've used it. It's a laidback airport -- what SJC used to be ten years ago. Culture: it's kinda cool how every city has its own vibe -- we'll go over the bridge -- it is a huge mental hurdle -- just to hang out in Berkeley. Oakland also has gritty charm. Pleasanton and beyond -- feels like a different country. Driving up from LA two days ago, I marveled again at how rural everything seems just a few miles out of San Jose. One of the many benefits of living in this part of the world. Inland Empire is Riverside/San Bernardino? Very different as well.
