Interesting opinion piece ... Gavin Newsom Declares California a ‘Nation-State’ https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/a...s-independence-from-trump-s-coronavirus-plans Wouldn't that be ironic.
Seriously, look at this smoke forecast map: To give you an idea how smoky it will be at your location check out the near surface smoke forecast from midnight Thu to midnight Fri for Norcal. #sacwx pic.twitter.com/Ye6Gz4pBmp— NWS Sacramento (@NWSSacramento) August 20, 2020 Unreal
Don't worry, I am sure construction of homes in the fire zones will continue. oh shit, I replied to a post from 2 years ago, my bad.
That lightning on Saturday night was unreal. I woke up around 3:30 AM to the sound of thunder, and for the next hour, there was a flash of lightning like every thirty seconds. I know the rest of the country's all "so what, you California wimps" but it was extremely unusual for here - we rarely get thunderstorms, and when we do, they're like five minutes and gone. This one just went on and on. Plus with the heat wave, it didn't cool down for two or three more days, even at night it was still 80 or so (rest of the country continues pointing and laughing, "you call that a heat wave", etc.) Then yesterday morning, the whole Bay Area smelled like we'd been barbecuing every animal in a hundred mile radius. Nice for like a minute, but all day long gets pretty tiresome. The wind came up and started blowing smoke up Knave's... way, so it was nice here yesterday evening. And cool enough to open the windows last night, and not have the whole house smell like smoke. I know one family that has been forced to evacuate - my brother's brother-in-law (my brother's wife's brother) - they live near Boulder Creek (down near Santa Cruz) and were out camping for the weekend and have not been able to go back to their house to retrieve anything. They don't know if their house is still standing.
Sitting here in SF the air quality isn’t terrible. Not great but better than the last couple of days. Could be due to the ocean breeze.

Check out fire cams from all over the state. The Bonny Doon camera (link below) is off line but is showing the last image it recorded last night. http://www.alertwildfire.org/southeastbay/index.html?camera=Axis-BonnyDoon&v=81e002f
Over 10k lightning strikes in less than 72 hours in northern California. Hardly a surprise that they ignited more than 300 wildfires. I knew this was going to be a mess when I saw the forecast last Friday/Saturday. My wife insisted on visiting a friend north of Fairfield but fortunately I managed to convince her to cut her visit to less than a day. That area has now burnt.
Yes. We are so not used to this. After the first sound of thunder, one of our idiot neighbors sent a group text in the middle of the night asking if anybody else had heard the explosion.
So, tonight will be bad ... Red Flag Warnings have been issued for much of northern California and portions of the Intermountain West today. Here is what one model thinks storms will look like tonight. Scattered thunderstorms with little to no rainfall are expected to move across #NorCal this evening into tomorrow. #CAwx pic.twitter.com/paMZnoroVY— NWS Sacramento (@NWSSacramento) August 23, 2020 Dry lighting storms headed over my house at midnight. Great ...
These dry lightning storms are such bullshit. Sure, bring the lightning to start fires, without any rain to keep things damp so the fires can spread more. ******** you, 2020.

Apparently they got some rain over the fire in the Santa Cruz Mountains a few hours ago so...at least there's that. And that storm blowing in has moved the smoke out of our area for now and dropped temps quickly. So let's hope the lightning just stays offshore.
The lightning has stopped (for now), and it is lightly, but steadily raining. Feeling pretty lucky about the rain.
Has the President approved any disaster aid for California, or is he still grousing about the lack of forest-rakers out there?
So, it turns out there was a lighting start fire about 1.5 miles away from me. I get the impression that it may have smoldered over night and then started to smoke this morning. It was caught on the fire cameras, and put out by the local fire department. Extremely lucky that we got the rain we did last night. Otherwise, who knows ...
