    Roster

As of 12/26/02 our roster is.

    GK Thorton
    GK Ring
    D Brown
    D Whitfield
    D Bocanegra
    D Curtain
    D/M Perez
    M Nowak
    M Gray
    M Beasley
    M Armas
    M Marsch
    M Capano
    M Daniv
    M Nugent
    M Mapp
    F Razov
    F Wolff
    F Selowane
    F Stiotchov
    F Faria

With Marsch and Stiotchov not signed. I believe that either Wolff or Razov will be gone and Stiotchov will not be with the team, next years line out could look like this:

    GK Thorton
    D Brown
    D Curtain
    D Bocanegra
    M Nowak
    M Armas
    M Beasley
    M Marsch
    M Gray
    F Faria
F Wolff or Razov (if it's Razov the Selowane aka Dipys) will start the first three games

Subs:Whitfield in defense or midfield, Perez in defense or midfield and Selowane in foward.

    Salaries?

What are the salaries of the FIRE players?

    My predictions for FIRE salaries?

    M Nowak 270,000
    F Wolff 270,000
    F Razov 260,000
    M Armas 225,000
    M Beasley 200,000
    D Bocanegra 125,000
    GK Thorton 125,000
    M Marsch 85,000
    D Brown 75,000
    M Daniv 65,000
    D Whitfield 50,000
    F Selowane 50,000
    F Faria 50,000
    GK Ring 40,000
    D Perez 40,000
    D Curtain 35,000
    M Gray 30,000
    M Capano DEV
    M Nugent DEV
    M Mapp DEV

That makes ours salary 1,995,000 that puts us 245,000 over the cap. So if either Wolff or Razov go we'll be right at the cap. Are 2003 lineup could be:

    -------------------THORTON---------------------

    BOCANEGRA----------CURTAIN------------BROWN

    ---------------------ARMAS----------------------

    MARSCH---------------GRAY------------BEASLEY

    ----------------------NOWAK--------------------

    -----------FARIA--------------WOLFF/RAZOV----

    SUBS:WHITFIELD,SELOWANE,RING,PEREZ,DANIV,
    CAPANO,NUGENT,MAPP

    What about Stoitchkov?

This is either a very silly question or an interesting point about last year's cap. If Wolff, Razov, Stoitchkov and Nowak were already up there near the maximum, how did we afford them last year?

Can someone chime in on the accuracy of these guesses? Like, where do you get 50K for Dipsy?

Will marsh start next year? i mean, he's a pretty decent player, and he never got hurt (did he lead the team in min. last year, or was he behind zach). however, when you look at who else is in the midfield, most likely he would be at outside mid, and there are many here who would rather not see him start over whitfield or maybe even mapp.

bradley loves marsh. dave might start him since jesse was, by default, one of our on-the-field leaders last season, but its arguable that whitfield is better and mapp has more promise.

also, we may see some more people get waved (perez), traded (wolff/razov), or retired (stoitchkov, peter), and there are others where who knows what could happen (daniv, dipsy).

i appreciate the attempt and understand the point, but i think its too early to start thinking about starting lineups.

Chicago Lineup for Opening Day??? more questions than answers

Just Wondering. This team was so good. Now, the team looks very different from previous years. Novak is not getting any younger. Mapp only played 28 minutes. I have more questions than answers. Someone teach me please?

I agree. Isn't this the same idiot who's over in the MLS forums saying that Chicago should be moved?

    Re: Salaries?

I would say that you are about 30,000-40,000 too high on this one. Otherwise he would be loooong gone.

    Too high by about 10,000-15,000

    Too high by about 20,000

    1. he is not currently under contract

    2. he will not be a part of the 2003 Chicago Fire unless he accepts making Henry Ring $$$.

yeah that one has always been a rumor, pretty much ever since the end of the season. Dema to K.C. was a rumor at some point too.

  18. Good riddence 2002!

Looks like 2002 couldn't let us get finish the year without one last kick in the arse.

"And here's one for the ol' lady!"

Do we harbor any hope that Dipsy may be ready to go by season's start?

Depends on the severity of the break, but I would bet he is out until June at the earliest. Can we hire some gypsy or someone like that to remove the curse from this club?

...in with the new. Hold on for the biggest trade week since 1996.

Completed moves will get their own threads when they are confirmed, but keep rumor discussion and speculation here for sanity's sake.

    Merry Christmas.

Because when Wolff got hurt in 2001, Razov came in as Wolff's replacement and he didn't count against the cap for rest the year and 2002. That how we had Wolff, Razov, Stoitchov, and Nowak the same time and not being over. But starting in 2003 Razov salary counts that's why were so far over the cap.
