So, the People's Poet has recommended the Buycott app so that all us libtards can feel good about the products we buy. Feel free to list the companies you are embargoing here!

I'm never really clear on the terminology - is it a boycott if you never bought the thing before? I mean, I've been boycotting Walmart my whole life, apparently.

Back on topic, I don't know what products Goya makes that I may have been buying. I get my spices from Penzey's, whose CEO is unapologetically liberal - he sends out weekly emails that would fit right in on this here P&CE forum. I'm not sure how authentic their "ethnic" spices are - the company is run by a white man in Wisconsin, after all - but I've used their chili powder and cumin in any number of things and my white palate is satisfied.

I've bought a lot of Penzey's spices over the past three years -- I'd never heard of them until the election -- but their spices really cake on me. I want to patronize Penzey's, but I'm done. Unfortunately.

On a related topic, and just because I’m Friday-lazy to open a nee thread, what do you guys think about the letter Chomsky, Rowling and others wrote about cancel-culture?

    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-53330105

The free exchange of information and ideas, the lifeblood of a liberal society, is daily becoming more constricted," suggests the letter.

It also says: "We uphold the value of robust and even caustic counter-speech from all quarters.

"But it is now all too common to hear calls for swift and severe retribution in response to perceived transgressions of speech and thought."

The letter condemns "disproportionate punishments" meted out to targets of public shaming by institutional leaders conducting "panicked damage control".

I think that at best they’re being disingenuous, at worst it shows some kind of elitist privilege...

Someone wrote on Twitter (I'm too lazy to find the tweet, sadly) that there's a reason why this letter was written in the abstract.

Never was sure about why so many people always discuss things in terms of a boycott- that is by definition a plan to resume giving a business your money once the owner/CEO/manager grudgingly offers a bone. If they'd wanted to do right, they'd have started off doing right, or, at the very least, started doing right decades ago.

The Washington gridiron team is a perfect example. It serves no purpose to go back to filling seats for Dan Snyder when it's clear that the name change (should it occur) had to be forced on him.

    It’s kinda his thing.

I’ve also been buycotting Walmart for some PR comments made during SARS in ‘03.

I was also hoping we’d all get a Stones concert like we did for SARS, but that tour would kill them.

Ps....speaking about canned fruit reminds me of Hawkeye [and a few posters here] auctioning himself off for a date with the nurse who wrote the best application. "Sweet Preserves" won! :)

Obviously I was referencing a prominent Canadian who made comments in support of Goya.

I wouldn't just say "******** Canada" to say "******** Canada." That's not like me.
