A catch-all thread to discuss past, present and future formations for the USMNT. What worked, what didn't work, what might work. Let's see where this goes. :D

At various points in time, nearly every relevant lineup has worked for the US - including the flat 4, empty bucket, 3-5-2, 3-4-3, even the 4-5-1.

Question is what best fits our current talent.

Answer: Not what Bob's been doing.

The best formation right now has to be either the 4-5-1 or a 3-5-2 (not tried recently that I can remember.)

I mean, it has to be one of those right? The only real quality we have in our talent pool is at mf. It has to be a formation that allows the most mf on the pitch.

I brought this up before and was pretty much laughed off the boards but if we get a new coach, one that is a tactician, a 3-6-1 might work. I know that formation is a running joke, but......I think it could work for this pool of players.

With the 4-5-1, I ask why not a 4-2-3-1? The only difference is the attacking line, lines up slightly further up the pitch. Slightly more aggressive.
