I'm making this thread for anyone who wants to organize any meet-ups for whatever. So to get it started. For EPL fans, big games Sunday. Man U vs Liverpool 8:30 Chelsea vs Arsenal 11:00 I know i'll be at Nevada Smith's for those games. Anybody other Borough Boys going, post replies. Nevada's will be slammed for these games, so if you go... go early.
I will be watching on my couch! Just so you all know - We will vote on it but in light of the events last weekend - There has been talk of Nevadas not being on the list of supported Borough Boys establishment! We are not sure they exemplify support for the US and its game the way we do! Southpaw probably has something to add there!!!!!
I don't know where all the Borough Boys live, but there is a bar on Atlantic Avenue that would be great for meetings, and they play games on the weekends, it's fairly quiet, and they have indoor bocce! It's in the Brooklyn though, I know it might not be that central to some. http://www.floydny.com/
I'm on Long Island... Nassau County.. i'd take the train into the city to Nevada Smiths... i dunno if i feel like bringing the Stang to Brooklyn though.. bad roads.. low car.. low profile tires = ownage
i'm also stuck on long island, but meeting in the outerboroughs is cool w/me. the time some of these games start though.................well let's just say i ain't exactly a morning person. as far as meeting places, i really haven't been feeling nevada's for a while. all this "best soccer pub in the U.S." talk has them thinking their shit don''t stink. they hardly offer good deals in beer, and the main level is f*ckin cramped. plus some of what i heard about the mayweather/hatton fight has disappointed me even more. there's plenty of soccer pubs just in the city alone. i'm sure we can find some place.
Not for nothing but I've always wanted to open a soccer/futbol bar/restaurant in Queens. Catering to all nationalities. Just madness 24/7.
Yea man - i mean i respect them because it is a great place to watch a match! But you are right - i think they have this Our Stuff dont stink mentality. The problem is - another bar has not stepped up to the plate! As for the fight - that was out of control that night. The Borough Boys were wrong in everyone's eyes - we should not have been offended at that! RIIIGHT! That really is what bothered me! We are forgetting one thing - we just need places to meet and watch games until they redevelop the iron triangle - then im sure a bar will open up! If we get a team im sure there will be one bar that will dedicate it to NYC2!!!
I understand what happened at Nevada's for the fight, but I think it gets a bad wrap sometimes. I have a great time when I watch Chelsea at Smiths' and it's usually not too crowded unless there is a big game on. But whatever, there are other bars. And to say it again, Floyd NY is one of the best bars in NYC, and a Fish and Chips place is right next door! Great for breakfast and a game.
Yea there were some people acting stupid that night(it happens) but im sure as a whole Nevadas is cool. But we should try to discover a new soccer bar, this is NYC you know? Instead of going to the same hack bar that everyone else frequents we should set our own trend. If not the city there has to be something on Queens Blvd.
The only really major plus about Nevada's, is that they play every major soccer game on at anytime. Check their schedule. It's insane.
We should go out exploring for a BB bar, but we can't just say "no" to any place at this moment. To educate people on a NYC FC you have to go where the soccer supporters are and Nevada's has tons. Now maybe we don't go there for EPL games, but World Cup qualifiers and USNT games I would think are a must at Nevada's. I can't think of anywhere else that we will find such a concentrated group of soccer-loving New Yorkers to talk with about a New York expansion team. I agree about the schedule... you can catch EPL at a lot of places, but what the other leagues? I know my godfather goes to a Spanish bar in Queens for La Liga games, but those are rare.
You guys have it backwards for Nevada's. They're are alot of British ex-pats that go to Nevadas. They get pissy when USMNT games are on because they could care less. For EPL games, they love everybody, because they have intrest in those games. I think for MLS, and American soccer, we need to look elsewhere. For EPL, there is no better place.
Agreed - for an EPL game - best atmosphere in NY but for MLS and US - no - even teh ESC told me the same thing - they dont support OUR game. For our meets, which would most likely be MLS and USMNT matches - we should find another place
I want to bring this thread back up to the front. This thread can be used to get borough boys and nyc2 fans together for any time. Anyone attending games or any activity, feel free to post here.
What up boys...sent Nick an email before. I'm pretty sure , i'll be at the Breff on Saturday. I'm a member of the Woodside Celtic Supporters Club, we have a few Americans, mostly Irish and Scot ex pats. Like a lot of you guys, I tried going to Jersey , it just didn't do anything for me. Especially with the security out at the swamp. Would love to see a team in the 5 boroughs. Cheers Frankie
Hey Frankie, glad you can make it. The more people we have to brainstorm the better, see you on Saturday.
BTW..you guys should ask the American Outlaws brothers to list the USA vs Mexico game ..same with the viewing parties listed here on BS for that game
