I was able to pick up some Bell's Amber Ale today. I've never had it. ratebeer.com is down right now, so I can't check to see how it compares to their others. Is it one of their good ones? Also got some 90 Minute IPA, 120 Minute IPA, Duvel, Orval, St. Bernardus Abt 12, Westmalle and of course Chimay. It's going to be a nice evening.
Picked up Dogfish Head Pangaea at the store... It's interesting, still not sure after drinkig it if I liked it or not.
And this was pretty cool, too. These guys at Southern Tier are making some really good beers right now. I like their Old Man Winter quite a lot.
Drinking New Belgium 2 Below, and while it's good, I really miss Frambozen. That used to be NB's winter brew, it was a Raspberry Brown Ale.
Whoa, that ad isn't very "safe for work." So anyone in the DC area ever been to Brasserie Beck? A PDF of their current beer menu. Great beer, great menu, and one of the bartenders is my brother-in-law.
I've liked most of the Smuttynose beers I've had over the years, but this one was entirely new to me. It's truly spectacular.
*sigh* I wish we had access to the number of micro-brews here in Toronto, that you guys have in the states. The Beer Store is owned by the Labatt-Molson monopoly, meaning that for the micro-brews you have to hope that the LBCO (wine and liquor store) has something, which more than often leads to disappointment. Damn communist province
I don't know how it is in other parts of the US, but being a beer nerd in Boston is kind of like being a wine lover in California. The big names are almost background noise, and high quality local product is available everywhere. I discovered this Smuttynose on draft at a restaurant that's a five minute walk from my house. A couple days later I found a bottle of it at a small liquor store that's maybe three blocks down the street from that restaurant.
I've heard of Smuttynose but I do not believe I have ever had the pleasure of tasting any of their beers. Based on your comments I just may have to rectify that.
I'm from St. Louis, but honeymooned in Vermont/Boston/Montreal 10 years ago. Magic Hat was fabulous and my wife absolutely loves #9. Problem: they don't distribute in Missouri. The closest they get is mid-Illinois. It's about 2 1/2 hours away for the nearest place to get it. Occasionally, I'll travel for work and pick up a case or 2. I'm a hero when I get home.
I picked up that and some of this the other day at the store. I liked 'em both. FYI, It's quite heady when you pour it. Watchout.
