This is a thread to post your starting lineups in. If your squad has a full 16 players, you can post your starting eleven in here. Try to keep players in position as you will be penalized if you don't. Please have four players in your backline but other than that there is no requirements for your formations. Lineups are due by 12 am pst Saturday morning. Good luck.

Does it really hurt to have a centerback in left/right back position? Or does it not matter?

If that centre back can reasonabley play in the full back position, you won't be penalised. This might be a tricky issue. Basically, if I'm not sure, I'll go with what FM 2008 tells me about a players positional capability. If you play a centre back at full back, you won't be heavily penalised (assuming he can't really play at full back). If you were to play a centre back (who can only play centre back) in midfield, you would be heavily penalised.

Because I might utilize Puyol as a fullback. Which he has done quite effectively in the past.

That would be absolutely fine, even if Puyol plays at centre back for Spain during the actual tournament.

I'll stick the groups and fixtures down here so everyone knows who they're playing.

p.s. About wins and draws. Obviously every team will get an average mark out of 10, for every round. Which might mean a team scores a mark of something like 7.12863. I think we should round marks to the nearest first decimal place. For example this score would be simply 7.1. Which would mean that an opposition score of 7.0986 would round up to 7.1 also and the result would be a draw. In knock out play, results will not be rounded.

It's up to the drafters to give their opinion on this. If we don't round up/down, draws will basically be meaningless. And, even if we do round, I imagine they'll be rare.

Firstly...how are we supposed to pick a lineup when we dont know who is playing?

I honestly thought this was a draft where we created OUR OWN teams, lineups and tactics...the way we are doing it means that teams/BS members with 11 starting players and 3 subs that are used will win and those who have a few players who dont play will wont win.

Eg: Friedrich, Chiellini, Albiol and Hitzlsperger are all chances to start but you never know with some of these strange NT coaches.

If Albiol starts for Spain (unlikely) and Friedrich doesnt start for Germany then my lineup would have to change to a back 4 (from right-left) of: Ujfalusi (RB), Albiol (CB), R.Kovac (CB), Chiellini (LB). If Hitzlsperger starts for Germany and Chiellini doesnt start for Italy then my back 4 would change to Friedrich (RB), Ujfalusi (CB), R.Kovac (CB), Hitz (LB).

    My lineup

    _____________Casillas____________

    Friedrich__Ujfalusi__R.Kovac__Chiellini

    _____________Senna_____________

    ______Moutinho____Engelaar_______

    __S.Larsson________________Robben

    _____________Koller_____________

Subs: Hitzlsperger (LW/LB), Albiol (CB), Fenin (ST), Gomis (CF)

Bloody Arshavin...if only you had a brain

I know what you're saying but this is a 'Fantasy Football' Draft and in FF, players are punished when their selected player don't play.

I will say that, it's my intention to be lenient on people under extreme circumstances. If a couple of the players in your 16 aren't starting, it shouldn't be a problem. If only 8 or 9 players out of your squad of 16 start their games, then you will suffer but I think that's fair enough.

Obviously in the traditional draft competition afterwards, this won't affect you.

That was all part of the drafting process. To be strategical on who you choose. To pick the best starting squad you can pick, then pick subs..

I'll confirm what Gordon EF said when he was talking about being lenient.

We will punish you for playing a defender at forward, but were not looking to punish you for little things or circumstances that come up. If a guy doesnt play, we'll sub a guy in.

Gordon and I will talk about formations and scores and ratings and we'll bounce ideas off each other, but that doesnt mean we have to agree.

You guys can decide whatever you want, as long as:

    1. No tactical writeups this is a fantasy draft.
    2. Scores are decided purely on how players perform, be that stats or ratings, and NOT on how they 'would' perform. I believe it's been mentioned by someone that we should have another competition after this with actual tactical writeups and that might be okay.
    3. You decide by tonight.

Wait, we can have five subs, not three? Also, this starting line-up is for the first of the three rounds of group matches, right?

    Yes and yes.

If you make it past the group stage, you'll have a chance to replace any players you lose (for example, if Holland are eliminated from the real tournament, you'll lose all your Dutch players). You will be able to replace them with players which are in the squads of the drafters who are eliminated at the group stage.
