The Big East sent six teams to the tournament last year. Do they send six again? Last year, Boston College was that sixth team with a finish of 6-4 and 10-8. Here's my predictions on how they finish the regular season: Code: SCHOOL W L T PTS Remaining games ____________________________________________________________ St. John's 8 1 1 25 Defeats Gtown Connecticut 7 3 0 21 Defeats VT, defeats Syracuse Boston College 7 3 0 21 Defeats Nova, loses to Rutgers Notre Dame 6 3 1 19 Defeats VT Rutgers 6 3 1 19 Defeats WVU, defeats BC Seton Hall 5 5 0 15 Conf season completed Virginia Tech 5 5 0 15 Loses to ND, loses to UConn Georgetown 5 5 0 15 Loses to SJ, defeats WVU Providence 4 6 0 12 Defeats Nova, loses to Pitt Syracuse 3 6 1 10 Loses to UConn Pittsburgh 3 6 1 10 Defeats Providence Villanova 2 8 0 6 Loses to Providence, loses to BC West Virginia 1 8 1 4 Loses to Rutgers, loses to GT Anyone know how they break the tie between Notre Dame and Rutgers? Head-to head is out as they tied in their regular season contest. How this is figured will determine if Rutgers plays Seton Hall, or if Notre Dame plays Seton Hall in the first game of the conference tournament. I think I have the three way tie between Seton Hall, VT, and Gtown figured right based on head-to-head. Gtown didn't play SH and lost to VT. Seton Hall defeated VT. Thoughts? The Big East represented themselves well in the tournament last year. They sent three teams to the third round, and St Johns to the final four. It will probably come down to how the bubble teams do in the first round of the Big East.
I think the Big East will have to settle for only 5 teams in the tourney this year. I can't believe Seton Hall will get an at large bid.....the other teams seem to have things pretty much wrapped up no matter how the conference tourney goes. There are 26 at large bids available this year, when you look down the coast it appears thats where most of them will be going. Possibly 5 to ACC teams, S. Carolina and possibly others from the state and then there are plenty of deserving teams from Conf. USA, MVC and out west that surely will be getting at large bids as well.
The team that could really throw things into turmoil is Virginia Tech if they could manage to win either of their last two conference games. I don't look for them to win on the road at Notre Dame or UConn, but stranger things have happened.
