Benfica's newest interest is Gomis (The New Drogba) of St Etienne. The guy is a great striker. Id love to see him at Benfica. St Etienne asking for 10m but have accepted an offer of 5m but the transfer did not go through because Gomis didnt want to go to Russia.

Gomis! If Benfica were able to get him we should do it immediately. Gomis and Cardozo would be a towering front line. If the lineup was utilized correctly, Aimar could be all the kill we need. He would have to work hard to compliment them both.

If Benfica were able to get that young French International from St. Etienne it would be a step in the right direction most definitely.

And with Jardel? And Pires? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo. We are trying to rebuild here.

I agree. Gomis is a great finisher. Him and Cardozo would do damage. I think we could get him for 7-8m.

As for the oldies, Jardel is more of a joke than Pires.

Out of all the strikers that have been mentioned so far the past few weeks (with the exception of Miccoli, hes my favorite), Gomis is the best one and the best way to go. i can definitely see him in a Benfica jersey. I hope this rumor is true and Benfica are serious about him.

Gomis is very much like Drogba, but don't you guys think he's also too much like Cardozo?

Gomis should not go for too high of a fee, if St. Etienne are reasonably smart: the team is pretty much bound to get relegated this year.

Let's see... with all the rumors, Benfica have the potential/possibility to look like...

    GK - Kameni/Moreira/Bruno/Cavalieri/Quim
    RB-Maxi/Patric
    CBs- Sidnei/Luiz/Miguel Vitor/ Luisao
    LB- Alvaro/Shaffer/Luiz
    RM/RW - Quaresma, Balboa, Amorim
LM/LW - Di Maria, Reyes, Coentrao, Adu, Urreta
    CM/DMs- Martins,Amorim, Bastos
    CAM/CF - Adu/Aimar/Martins
St - Gomis, Miccoli, Cardozo, Nuno Gomes,Mantorras, Jardel, Afonso Alves, Uretta

Binya, Katso and Moretto are leaving. Di Maria, Luisao, Reyes and Cardozo are possibly leaving.

...and this is so far. Im sure we got plenty of more "rumored" names to come.

Umm yeah to an extent. He's more mobal and has more technique than Cardozo but they are similar. Im still all for it though.

Yep, except I would say a tad less skillful with the ball. I think he would be very similar into what Cardozo brings. But the oppertunity to play in Gomis, if possible cannot be thrown out. He is one of Europes upcoming strikers in my opinion and he would fit into Benfica system well.

I also think it would be possible for Cardozo to line up beside Gomes, but Aimar would HAVE to be on the field to provide that other type of threat. Otherwise it could very much go bad.

We bring back Adu, and either utilize him on the wing if Reyes leaves, or a replacement in the middle for Aimar. We would also need to get in another winger in the Simao mold, one that passes first and is good at putting in crosses.

The possibility of Gomis - Cardozo excites me. Not even the towers of Alves and Rolando would be able to thwart every cross from these 2 monsters.

I've seen Gomis play in the French league a few times and I would venture to say that he's certainly more mobile (and faster) than Cardozo. On top of that, he's a bit more technical. Just my 2 cents, though.

I would like Gomis as long as getting him doesn't mean we'll have to sell Cardozo or let Reyes go.

Apparently we're close to sign Alvaro Pereira, left back. Not very happy about that, we already have Jorge Ribeiro, David Luiz is playing there and then there are the two promising kids on loan, Sepsi and Ruben Lima, I was hoping at least one of them could stay for next season.

Never seen this Pereira kid play. But Ribeiro, in my opinion should be sold. He is good at crossing the ball, but defensively he is a mess. He is not aware of his surroundings at all, lets way too many people get in behind him, and then doesn't even track back.

David Luiz was a decent LB, but lets be honest. He is a better CB. Sepsi and Lima I cannot comment on them as I have no seen enough of them in the past.

I agree about Ribeiro, never should have came back in my opinion. Sepsi is just as good crossing the ball and is better defensively.

David Luiz has been awful at CB since he came back from injury (didn't have many chances though), given how good he is going forward I'm willing to see how he develops on the left.

I've heard good things about Lima, supposed to be good going forward while competent defending. Apparently good at set pieces too.

From the little I saw of Sepsi last year i liked. David Luiz lost a lot of his confidence from playin LB and not doing too well. He doesn't seem like the same player from late last season and earlier this year. If a good offer comes for him let him go. Miguel Vitor is gonna be a hell of a player and Sidnei is good too.

What happened to the money that you guys got from selling Quaresma, Simao, Nani, C. Ronaldo, Viana????? There's some nice profits on that list! Can you imagine how much better your team would be if your ownership would actually invest the money back into the team!!!

Benfica already clinched UEFA spot so there's no difference in 3rd, 4th or 5th right now...except for bragging rights.

They do invest it back into the team. Except they invest it differently then Benfica does. They throw their money back into the Teams infrastructure, youth development, etc...

    Now back to Benfica.

True. Benfica have been linked to one though.

Jorge Ribeiro better be sold, or at least loaned out. Sepsi did terrible in Spain and is going back to Cluj. Benfica will use him in the deal to get Alvaro Pereira.

And as for Luiz, they better start using him as CB or else hes going to lose all his talent in that position. He was absolutely herendous at CB after playing LB. We need him to improve and get back to his natural position because....

....Jorge Jesus explained to LFV that he wants to use a 3-4-3 formation!

    So we may be seeing...

    Luiz--Sidnei--Vitor

But then buying Patric (RB) and Alvaro (LB) makes no sense.

3 youngsters in the back. Yikes. Better upgrade the GK if that's the case.
