The Beast on Rick Barry Show Today 9/19 Yesterday afternoon during Tom Tolbert's show, KNBR (680 AM) ran a pretaped ad for today's Rick Barry show (noon - 3 PM) in which the former NBA god announced he will be talking with Mr. Dayak. No specifics on what time, though. FYI. After the ad, Tolbert came back on and said he'd like to get Joe Cannon on at some point this week to talk about Saturday's game and the playoffs, so keep your ears peeled. If I hear confirmation, I'll let you know. Tolbert and Joey are quite funny together.

nope, the show is on for one hour before the live in-store remote. in an act of shamless self-promotion, i know this because i'm the dj of that show. i've been interviewing jimmy and joe over the past few weeks. this week it's ibby. anyone have any questions they're just burning to know the answer to? what was your air name? how exciting! what a small world....
Took the above private con offline... Anyway, the segment on Rick Barry was pretty good. Between 1:45 and 2, they talked about Troy's injury, the Quakes' bad luck with injuries in general this year, why Troy chose soccer over football (chance to play in the Olympics), what the Olympics were like, and Saturday's match with LA. (Troy, on the Galaxy: "I hate those guys. They have this pompous attitude that makes you want to beat them. I hope we tattoo the Quakes logo all over them Saturday." He also accused LA of stealing SJ's chance at bonuses last year, but to me that's fuzzy logic since it was Osama & Co.'s fault that the last two games weren't played. He did say he'd mention the chance to get a bonus for coming in first place prior to Saturday's game to motivate people.) Then Rick asked Troy to stay on a while and take phone calls, so he did that (any of you call in?)...One caller asked Troy who were some of his favorite international players he's lined up with. Answer included ex-England striker/Blackhaws fullback Paul Mariner, Chinese ex-Blackhawk Townsend Qin, and Jamaican ex-Blackhawk Peter Isaacs (whose nickname was "Boomie" but often was "Boo-Me"--my story, not Troy's, but true nonetheless... ). Another caller tore up Quakes management for not putting butts in the seats, but Troy handled it diplomatically.

Joe thanked Club Quake and the Casbah. Poor guy sounded really nervous this time; during the WC, he and Tolbert were loose and hilarious going back and forth. Still a good piece, and Joe agreed to be a defacto playoff correspondent for Tolbert.
I listened to Troy earlier. It was cool to hear how much he wants to beat LA on Saturday. It wasn't cool to hear how much pain he had not too long ago with his injury. And that he's still in pain but playing. Hopefully he gets to a good level of recover so he can help kill the galaxy this weekend. I enjoyed the whole interview, it was interesting to hear what Troy had to say. I wanted to hear the Joe interview but messed up and thought it was 4:45.
Troy's interview was entertaining, a couple of things that stood out to me was his mention that the head of referees was watching the match against LA last week and was appalled at the decision (or lack there of) by the AR on Ruiz's goal. He said that Itaya has been suspended He also mentioned that after playing against Columbus that he couldn't step over the cat for a week and a half. Said the injury is nothing compared to what he has been through before and that he will be back and ready to go next year.
