Have to attack to win, and this Wolves team weren't good. Better attacking would have put us 3 or 4 up.
And in injury time, the sub Trossard picked one up (some sort of concussion?) and had to be taken off. Sigh...
100% and it's been an issue all season. This attack is absolutely stagnant and the inability to score goals and kill off games is going to cost us. It's the difference between us and Liverpool last year. Pool had games where they concede 2 against shit teams but score 3\4\5. Unless we are playing Leeds the goals dry up. Unless Kai is playing no one goes for Gyokeres. And looking at a stat the other day when Gyokeres goes off we conceded goals and drop points because Jesus is dreadful up top. Our success this year basically depends on Havertz staying healthy for 12 games.
Ye wolves are woeful And I saw nothing that makes me think this is a viable option against teams that don’t belong in championship
I have no confidence in this team getting a result at Spurs. Arteta has some big issues. We can't score goals against Wolves? Dire result and if we don't win the league we point to games like this and big big questions get asked of the manager, his tactics, his play style. But ultimately if we don't win the league then four 2nd place finishes starts to creep the question that he is a manager unable to get the best out of this team. But why not bring on Norgaard who is a solid defensive mid. Why would be bring on Calafiori? Timber again drops off the last 15 minutes of games so why not bring on White? Or if not fit Mosquera? It's bad decisions compounded by dire attacking football where we just don't look like scoring enough for the quality we have and we are letting poor teams either stay in games too long or do what Wolves, the worst team in the EPL since 2011, take a point off us. They wouldn't have got a 2-2 draw with any of the other top 6 teams.
need a players only meeting. I'm mad at arteta too btw but arteta isn't telling martinelli to play like ass, or raya not to call for the ball.
i don't think you can say we can't score against wolves when we scored 2. Unless you mean we can't create more than 2 which yeah fair but we also don't even average 2 goals a game.
I really didn't watch this game so much as I had it on in the background. The timing seems right for a Rewinder appearance.
Against a poor Wolves team we should have been 3-0 at HT. Hell even at 2-0 you bring on Norgaard to manage the game. It's literally what we bought him for. But our attacking systems have failed all season unless we play Leeds or teams in the championship and below.
Well actually we did score two. I really think the bigger failing is that for significant stretches we took our foot off the gas and let them into the game, into our half, balls into our box... more than we ever should've. Sure if we'd scored 3 we'd still have 3 pts. But regardless of the old cliche, we were 2-0 with 30 mins to go, and that should've been safe. Edit: I saw later that the FT xG was 0.3 - 1.9. And IIRC at HT it was 0.1 - 1.8. I'm no xG expert but that seems to support the theory that they had little rights to score twice.
That felt like a case of we played not to lose rather than playing to win in the second half, and we have done that a few times this season and last season and these are the sort of results that occur.
I don't feel like this is all on Arteta. Just like in some of the other matches this season where we threw away leads and ended up with only 1 or 0 points, I think the players have to take some responsibility. IOW, I think the blame is shared.
And while we're talking about blame, I've got a big question for Raya. Did he call Gabby off that fatal cross? Because I didn't hear anything.
Going into this match, Arsenal had scored 50 and conceded 18, Wolves had scored 16 and conceded 48. They are anti-Arsenal, their defense is bad but not the worst, their attack is absolutely putrid. They have 9 fewer goals than the next worst club. Up 2-0 at 60m should have been enough, they should not have needed to score a 3rd. But they needed to control the ball, attack, and apply pressure. Instead they just fall apart and allow Wolves to have chances. Remember earlier this season when they went multiple matches without conceding a shot on target? That feels like a lifetime ago.
Also, even though the TV producer focused cameras on Calafiori 3X after the catastrophic equalizer, I think he is completely blameless. In fact, he almost saved the day by retreating to the goal line when he saw Raya go out flailing, and blocked the shot onto the post.
Jon Champion said we've taken 10 pts from the last 21 available. If my math is right that's an average of 1.43 pts per game in our last 7. Sheesh
I rewatched the last few mins of the match. And they seemed to be doing a real good job of winding up Jesus. And he took the bait. Luckily his push was below the neck, otherwise we'd have our next personnel crisis. Not that he really added much to today's match. Nor did Victor for that matter. p.s. Kudos to the grim looking Arsenal staffer who ushered GJ9 quickly off the pitch. Had he stayed, I coulda seen him earning red.
I told my son about two minutes before Hincapie scored that if we continued playing like this, it would end in draw. Hincapie's goal didn't really change my mind. Everyone looked awful except Rice and Hincapie. I really believed we'd win the league this season. I don't believe that anymore.
