How is that we're trying to coopt Palace's theme song "Glad all Over"??? Or is that Granit Xhaka's new song? Can't really make it out.
today was the most difficulty that i can remember this year of our midfield/upper defense recovering the ball after we lose it. i mean, sure, probably toughest game we've had so far but they really carved us up in the middle 3rd in the first half.
not getting a yellow on jesus today was big. i think we're pretty set for second XI for europe for a lot of spots. front 4 can easily be full second set. both fullbacks can be second set. sambi and vieira in midfield and holding in defense. only question will be 2nd CB and xhaka spot which i'm assuming will be gabriel and xhaka?
Jesus was really good today. His off the ball work is so good. Remember when @Rewinder said he was the Brazilian Lacazetter?
saka is, like, the most "boring" and not-noticeable really good winger. no stupid 37 stepover to move 2 feet, no i'm going to hold onto the ball and stop all momentum like antony/vinicius jr, no stupid selfish speculative shot into row Z. just . . . . draws 2 people and opens up space while making (generally) good decisions. caveat: i'm 100% biased.
One of the things I REALLY enjoyed today was the playlist from our home supporters: Starting with: North London Forever Then including some greatest hits: Totnum get battered Saliba! We've got Super Mik Arteta Whadya think of Totnum 49, 49 undefeated We are top the league And probably a bunch more I didn't catch... it was never ending segues... more of that at home please!
I don’t think that’s a harsh red at all. Live I thought it was at least a yellow but wasn’t sure Taylor would give it, but on first replay I changed my mind to definite red. He makes no attempt to play the ball and puts his studs directly onto a planted ankle with not insignificant force. How is it not a red?
Yeah, it's odd but I guess no tune is sacred. I just confirmed that it's the new Granit Xhaka song. Fair enough.
on live, i thought it was an easy yellow and thought nothing of it. 2nd replay angle wasn't that offensive. 1st replay angle, though, changed my mind. it was studs first and pretty high with full force. i had a brief flash of diaby on that replay. i'm assuming the red call came from his earpiece.
Odegaard was the official captain on the day. But was Xhaka our real captain? After one of the goals (Partey's?) it was Xhaka who demanded a huddle and told they boys what we needed to do next. If things continue to go well for him this year, and if he re-signs with us, it's not hard to imagine the completion of his "rehabilitation" and him being at least a vice-captain next season.
A thorough and convincing win. Overall, we handled Spuds counter-attack really well…it helps having Saliba on the back line. A few of my Spuds friends texted me to say they were surprised how well we played. Clearly they haven’t watched us this season since this is the same domination we’ve had in each match (Crystal Palace possible exception). Also as usual - Spuds were shite. London is RED.
Same It was a clear red on replay.. Outside of the trouble on the counters, this was a dominant performance. Saka and Martinelli gave them hell while Partey was everywhere that first half. Xhaka was the MOTM for me though. Wonderful #8.
A great victory! Spurs weren't in the game, even with 11 men. Red card was a very dark shade of orange, which means a red is a fair call. I was concerned about sp*rs counter attacking threat since United exposed us quite badly on that front, but we were comfortable. Still need to sharpen up our play in the final third - Martinelli in particular needs to look up more often.
The Andrew/Arseblog standard is how would you feel if the roles were reversed and that red card went against an Arsenal player. I'd be annoyed at Taylor because most refs would show yellow there. But I'd be more pissed at the player for a stupid, unnecessary, wreckless challenge.
He’s already that? He and Jesus were name checked by Arteta as the other members of the ‘leadership group’, and he’s taken the armband every time Ødegaard was subbed off. He also was the captain from the start at Brentford.
For me the intention to foul was flagrant, which is serious foul play. You just need to see how far away the ball was. But, borders on Violent conduct. Both are sending off offences.
i mean, regardless of how fans were feeling about xhaka, he's been a team leader for eons, especially to younger players. even during those "bad days" when he was The Bad Guy. if you watch the game without only focusing on how much of a bad guy he was, it's always been obvious and you can see him going over to talk to players, whether it's free kick or just other incidents. different players have called him out by name as someone who talks to them and help them. in the nuno interview that prince posted end of last season, he specifically called out xhaka as someone who helped him and talked to him. also, xhaka and gabe jesus are the vice-captains whatever names they want to give it.
that's a good point. i hadn't even thought about that but announcers were pretty adamant about that point.
This succinctly states my thoughts: Probably a bit controversial, I'm not convinced that was a straight red card for Emerson Royal. It was a stupid challenge and didn't look great, but I'd have been furious if an Arsenal player had been sent off for it. Anyway, LOL at Sp*rs. Nice to get the decision.— Andrew Allen (@AAllenSport) October 1, 2022 I’m happier because it was an unjust red given how we got hosed against Sperz at new White Hart Loo.
