As I was saying... maybe player rhythm. Or in Jesus's case a chance to see him play wide left (in an Arsenal system). But for me, I think it's nuts that he didn't give Jesus and Saka for that matter, a full day off.
huh. gabe jesus always go out wide when he's together with nketiah but this is the first i've seen odegaard + vieira and it's interesting to see odegaard taking the xhaka spot instead of moving vieira.
jesus has played together with nketiah quite a bit - simply not full games - both in preseason and during the season. he has always gone out left when they are together.
Has Jesus played wide left for us before? Much?? (I can't recall that) Edit: I see that you answered that at the same time I was typing. Meanwhile Ben White coming on for... Gabriel?? Nope! for Tierney
We need to put them to the sword with 2 more goals! For comparison, our biggest threat in the group, PSV, just trashed Zurich 5-1 at their place. Same place we only managed to squeak out a 2-1 win.
Nketiah having missed many chances. Can someone explain to me one thing about the five subs rule. As far as I understand, you can do five subs but you have to do them specifically within three chances. I.e. if you sub in three players during three chances that's it and your two remaining players cannot come in. Is this accurate? I noticed in the EPL coaches send in two players at once to be able to use this law but the UCL and EL allows them to use five subs five times. Or?
82' Nelson finally makes it on (for Nketiah). So now Jesus finally will get to move back to where "he belongs"
Apparently so. We had a lengthy discussion about this happening in the last Arsenal Women's match. But not sure if UEFA rules are exactly the same.
FINALLY 3-0! Vieira delivers after Jesus does the hard work. God we haven't had those type of dribbling skills in the box for so long. Jesus has been a HUGE part of our transformation this season.
i don't think UEFA competition has the same "3 window" thing. i think the FA put that in to placate non-premier league teams.
FT ARS 3-0 BOD Not an amazingly convincing victory. But we were clearly the better team. Still, against the champions of Norway, we should be! Nice to see some of our second stringers finally get serious minutes. Including Turner who acquitted himself very well I thought... only one mistake that I can recall.
We need to ban Jesus from playing Europa cmon so scared someone will just kick him because he’s levelsssssss above everyone my heart stops anytime anyone goes near him
I hold such a flame for Reiss still. I know it’s unreasonable but I still have hope. I really did not enjoy what Sambi and Turner showed today especially in second half. Every time Bodo attacked they just ran right past Sambi, and Turner’s distro, especially long, was horrendous
Perhaps the biggest smile from me tonight was for the Xiaflex ad which used carrots to show what bent penis deformity looks like. I guess we should prepare ourselves for more "creative" advertising like this.
Hmm. Interesting how 2 people can judge a player so differently. But then again I focus more on a GK's defensive moves than I do his offensive moves. That one mistake I referred to was an errant short/medium outlet pass. Oh and I remember another bad one where he launched it too hard so Tomi couldn't keep it from going into touch. There were quite a few good moments by Matt, either saves or slick ball control at his feet when someone was bearing down on him. But I'm in no way going to be able to catalog them. It would be interesting to see what the various player ratings say about Turner in this match. I don't generally look at them, but if you do, feel free to share.
i think having ramsdale makes it worse because you can see the difference so drastically but his long distribution is super rough.
Partey needs to stay fit and out of handcuffs until January, and then we need to have Danilo or some other DM signed and ready to go. If we have to play Sambi for an extended period, we are screwed.
Turner's shot stopping was great. His distribution was not good. Weird match. We looked disjointed for long stretches but still were rarely troubled. I didn't like the subs, but I suppose we have to defer to Arteta, the coaching staff, and the physios knowing best if anyone is "red-zoning."
would be interested to see what everyone here thinks about GK distribution vs shot-stopping. As helpful as good distribution is, I am not sure it is more important than goal prevention.
Why is Matt Turner at Arsenal? I just don’t get it. Sambi does some nice stuff when he plays, but he is just so…slow. Not in the sense that he can’t run: it appears he can cover a lot of ground with those long strides. But he takes forever to do anything, including going after a player that runs off him, turning away from pressure when he receives the ball and making any kind of decision on what pass to play.
