Defenestration (noun): a throwing of a person or a thing out of a window, usually a high one because throwing someone out of a low window only makes them angry, though apparently Abraham Lincoln once threw himself out of a window. The term is also sometimes used by Linux users to describe the act of removing Microsoft Windows from a computer. For a time, defenestration was among the leading causes of death among Russian oligarchs, with many of these events having been described as suicides. Who said you can't have serial suicides?

Why am I talking about defenestration? Because we play Burnley on Monday and, before the Premier League defenestrates them, we need to do the same in much more emphatic fashion: there's a universe in which the league title comes down to goal difference, and Burnley hitting the ground outside the Emirates with an emphatic thud would most likely be good for our goal difference.

    Let's stomp these guys.

If we can’t beat Burnley we don’t deserve to win the league

We already it will be low block. The longer we go without scoring the harder it becomes mentally. First half goal would be nice.

So far we haven't had any one score on us in the month of May so far if I'm not mistaken. Burnley has nothing to play for except pride which could be good or bad. Shouldn't matter but one never knows

This game will be like the Fulham game.

Burnleys away form is dire, yes they nearly beat Man City a month ago but that was at home on a short break for City.

Recently away Forest battered them 4-1 and Leeds got them 3-1 before their 2-2 home draw against a tired and rotated Villa team who had just played in the EL SF 3 days earlier.

We have had a weeks break. There is absolutely no reason everyone won't be up for this.
    We will smash Burnley.
If we don't win and it costs us the title then you have to sack players and the manager because it will have come down to such gross incompetence that theres no coming back from it. This would kill the culture under Arteta.

And then we will rightfully suffer Michael Jackson memes into eternity.

But we are winning this match.
Either 3-1 or 4-1 because Flemming has 5 goals in his last 9 and has a knack of shithousing a goal lately.
Gyokeres, Saka and MLS will score.

They didn't "nearly beat" Man City. City should have run up a cricket score in that game, the xG was something like 4 - 0.2.

Burnley says don't write them off. The good thing is its away for them and the awe of the moment and environment.
We need to jump on that possible fear from the start, push in the first 5 minutes to score early

I meant to add a snarky comment and forgot to, City should have smashed in goals but I remember seeing the 2nd half and thought Burnley should have shithoused an equaliser.

No doubt had they scored City probably score another, and after rewatching the highlights they should have scored 5 or 6 and given a warning to the fans sitting behind the Burnley goals with how many they put over. xG was 0.80 to 3.05 :speechless:

Those kind of odds scare me. Make me think banana peel.

So I sure hope any traces of Highbury Library is vastly overrun by some of the rabid atmosphere's we saw recently, like Atleti leg 2.

Don't be shy everyone!! (fans and players!)

Mikel was typically inscrutable today, about team news, especially since it's 4 days out. But here's a few quotes around personnel...

    on Calafiori’s fitness:
No, we don't know whether he's going to be available. We still have days ahead. Hopefully, it's nothing serious. We'll have to wait and see how he reacts.

    on Mosquera playing right back:
There are different options in relation to the opponents as well as the things I want to do. Not only one, but two or three options, because games can vary, players can pick up an injury. I don't know. I want to be flexible on that.

    on Timber’s fitness:
He wanted to be very close to the team. He's progressed a little bit in the last few days. We're going to try to get him fit and available as quickly as possible, but let’s see. He's been out for a while, unfortunately. He's such an important player for us. We all know that and he's doing everything he can to help the team in any capacity. We know his leadership, his quality and how much the team needs him.

on whether Timber has a chance to play this season:
There is a chance. But how big the chance is, I cannot tell you. I'm being completely honest. He's going to try to do everything he can to convert that chance as high as possible in the shortest possible period, and that's the challenge ahead.

    on Calafiori playing at right-back:
I think the sample is so tiny. It's very difficult to judge a player when he has low minutes. Declan Rice, when he's played as a full-back, against Brighton, was exceptional. But then the other night, it was something else. It depends. The sample is still so little, it will remain so little from here to the end of the season to judge if a player is good enough who can perform in the position, and what is the cost of moving that player from one position to the other, and that's the balance that we need to find.

on whether he can take a risk at right-back:
I don't know if the word is risk. At the end, we have to make a decision because the circumstances require that. With Myles, it was a bit different. It was a choice because of what we saw and what we believed that he could do and what the team was needing and I think he's done really wel

Burnley have given up 73 goals this season, an average of 2 goals a game. They are the worst defensive team in the league.

Win on Monday and Arsenal could win the league on Tuesday when City travel to Bournemouth on 3 days rest. Bournemouth will have had 10 days to rest and prepare for City.

Just win the matches. Don’t ask for any favors. Don’t rely on smashing one of these last two opponents. Just win.

I think we win the last two, it’s something to add to @TurdFurguson’s meme.

It would also be nice for the narrative to be that City bottled it.

Couldn’t help notice this innocuous little post put out by the league. Sure seems like they’ve cast their vote. I hope Mikel can use this to further motivate the boys. Siege mentality anyone?

The longer it takes to get the first goal, the tougher it will be because of desperation and so much on the line.
As for Burnley scoring, god forbid, all they need is one corner or a free kick where someone misses an assigment and they are up 1-0 or have equalized.
My gut is giving me signals I don't want to type. Throw out the stats, and all that. There are so many games this year we either lost or drew we shouldn't have on paper.

Just scrolled the latest training pics, and was pleased to see all the outfield players on the pitch that you'd wanna/expect* available. Very few goalie shots, but I have no reason to think Raya is anything but 110% ready.

*No sign of Timber or Merino but I never really expected they'd be in full training yet or on the bench.

p.s. Where are the rest of y'all? There's a rather big game on today, in case you'd forgotten. ;)
