Not to be lost in all the City gloom and doom was the brilliant goal scored by Daniel Sturridge. Sturridge who was injured during the last several months has the technical ability, physical presence, and hopefully the perseverance and determination to become one of the top forwards in the English Premiere League. In early January, I spoke via email with one of the writers at ESPNsoccernet regarding the youth movement at Manchester City and his comment was spot on: "...watch out for Daniel Sturridge who has been injured but is really one for the future." What are your thoughts? Will Sturridge see more first-team action?
You can't blame him for that .. He really changed the dynamic of the game and opened up our forward line a bit.
Sturridge had a brace in the FA Youth Cup v Bristol City. Who does the Youth squad play next in semi final of the FA Youth Cup?
We've got to play Plymouth Argyle on 26 Feb to make it through to the Semis, then it will either be Charlton or Sunderland. Full info on the competition can be found here: http://www.thefa.com/TheFACup/TheFATrophy/ Sturridge will be brought through gradually - he played in the FA Cup game and Premiership match because we were short in numbers up-front. Im glad he has because he has shown that he has the potential to make it big time in the Premiership, although he'll obviously need to do it on a regular basis. Nows not the time to be playing him loads and the season's success cant be depended on him. He needs to be blooded through little by little, hes got fantastic ability and a great finish and I hope he makes it. I guess he will be used in the FA Youth cup matches and the reserves then next year he will be used in Carling Cup matches or perhaps even go out on-loan to gain experience. Experience is all he needs I reckon, once he gets a bit of that then he will be flying. He isnt needed as much now because Vassell has been doing much better in recent games and we've bought Benjani and Caciedo and Bojinov is coming back from injury so there are many options now.
Going out on loan seems to be the better choice rather than have him sitting around waiting for his chance (now that we do have a few strikers available ). Alan - which teams/league do you think would be suitable for him?
Logically he would be sent out on-loan to a Championship side, like what happened with Miller and Evans. Going down a tier or two on-loan is more beneficial than staying in the reserves because its more competitive and its the step below the Premiership. Any team in the Championship would be interested in Sturridge I reckon, simply because hes shown how good he is and the talent he has - its just a matter of developing it. I dont think he will be off anywhere this season though, we could do with him now the way our season is heading
From what I have been reading, he is still with at ManCity because he petitioned Sven to let him play in the FA Youth Cup. He has been brilliant in his last few matches. I believe 4 goals. FYI - City won 2 - 0 against Sunderland at Stadium of Light in first leg of FA Youth Semi. And Aston Villa and Chelsea tied 1 - 1 in the other Semi. The first leg was at SBridge.
