Time for Elmar Bolowich at UNC to announce his 8-12 recruits eventhough he only had 4 seniors. This class was 13 with 4 staying to graduate. Then we have to check the 2007 roster to see which players were asked to leave the team. I find it hard to believe Elmar Bolowich has done this for 10 years plus. No other program in the US ask recruited players to leave every spring in the numbers. When Ohio St did this one year it was a big deal and Bolowich does it every spring. Also Bolowich has lost the CASL connection after cutting so many every spring and has not had a winning season or won his games in the NCAA since 2002. UNC did not even make the NCAA this year. The 2001 championship was all Weiss who has past Bolowich at VA Tech. Which brings the biggest news, the UNC players have made it known around campus and to their parents they want Bolowich fired. The ex UNC players I have talked to do not say good things about playing for Bolowich. Bolowich in his 20th year is a prime example of a coach who landed at a easy to recruit program before soccer was popular in US and has done less with the best recruits. He makes over $200k with salary and camps and runs a headache free program for the AD. Unfortunately that is all AD expect from olympic sports. One of Bolowich's tricks is getting kids on academic scholarship who play in 10 weak opponent games in 4 years but make 4.0 GPA which makes the team GPA higher and keeps the AD happy. He lives in the shadow of the UNC woman's coach and almost every ACC mens coach. He will kick off at least 4 or 5 players from last years roster. When a player goes to UNC they need to know if the get hurt they will be asked to leave the program. Ask the U-17 residency kids, Regional ODP players that have gotten hurt and been asked to leave once surgery causes them to miss time or lose a step. Jordon Graye who got the attention of MLS from his play at the ACC tourney did not play for his first 2 years after coming from time at the U-17 residency. And with typical Bolowich fashion was never told why he was not playing, what he needed to improve, nothing. Bolowich does not communicate with his player period. Player play the entire season without having one 2 minute conversation with the head coach. Without his assistants Bolowich would have no success with recruiting and if he was a basketball or football coach at any university he would have been fired every year he has coached except when Weiss coached the team to a championship. And yes in the spring 10 years ago he cut one of my friends CASL kids after surgery when the kid turned down Wake, UVA and Duke. And I have watched him do this to 3 or 5 kids every year since. UNC soccer is a one way committment and I amazed the AD and NCAA allows this.
It looks like Joan Carvajal is no longer on UNC's roster. One season after transferring from Creighton. Anyone know the deal? Going pro, graduating, etc?
From the very talented and deep senior class coming out of Pennsylvania, it looks like Lafayette and Lehigh have done the best job recruiting these players of the Div. 1 schools that have announced. Word is that Lock Haven in Div. 2 as well as Messiah and York College in Div. 3 are getting some of the top Pa. players who have turned down Div. 1 offers to play on these teams. All three schools sound like they have very strong overall classes coming out of Pa. this year.
After years of this happening at UNC, I would hope that recruits go there knowing how things work and understand that they could be dropped. That is why a little due diligence by players and parents is needed in the whole recruiting process. UNC is not the only school that does this and we tell our players to make sure they understand the possible negatives before they commit. Of course a recruit can be pushed out at any school and this often happens when coaching changes are made. IT is just more prevalent at a few Div. 1 schools.

Liberty http://www.libertyflames.com/index.cfm?PID=10869&newsID=2240&TeamID= Liberty head men’s soccer coach Jeff Alder has announced student-athletes Juan Nino and Alex Verville have signed national letters of intent to join the 2007 Big South Champion Liberty Flames.
For BC, I know that after reading a couple articles on the internet, I believe that they have 3 ESP participants lined up to go there: Conor Fitzpatrick from CT, Nathan Boudreau from NY, and Edvin Worley from FL. For UConn, I only know of one guy: Josh Mensah from the Dallas Texans.
"...why I oughta." But seriously, it's nice to see UE mentioned again when talking about anything positive. It's been a while.

More from UCSB: http://ucsbgauchos.cstv.com/sports/m-soccer/spec-rel/022908aaa.html 6'5" Canadian striker added to recruiting class along with 3 others
The NCAA might find this story about Reid Fraser, the 6-5 Canadian, interesting. http://www.canada.com/victoriatimes...d6df001-a71c-4346-bf5b-4a1c934ba318&k=63767&p Likely just a youth deal that got pimped up to the local papers, who then misunderstood it and figured it was the same as a pro contract. But, anytime you've been associated with a pro team, you're gonna come under a microscoper before you're cleared to play. I hope he's cleared to play from Day One. Sounds like a player who could do very well at UCSB, especially if the Gauchos have more MFs like Avila, O'Brien and one of my favorites, Memo Arzate, coming through the pipeline.
