No one talks about him because as far as most people are concerned he voluntarily defected, unlike the Japanese who were abducted.

That is still something that should have been brought up in the news. The article ends by saying there is controversy over whether he actually defected or not.

If there is any question, why was this NOT picked up by any of our news agencies?!?

Probably because he's a ************ing traitor and most people here want nothing to do with him.

Just because he wanted to go to a truely democratic country instead of the totalitarian regime of America, doesn't mean he's a traitor

    You are on crack.

Shenhua, shouldn't you be beating up old women in the park for practicing Tai Chi and shooting steroids into high school girls so that they could win your gold medals in weightlifting, because your men suck at all sports?

But nobody knows whether he actually defected, especially considering he is married to a Japanese abductee.

But of course, you take all news releases from Pyongyang as gospel and the North Korean government surely wouldn't compel its citizens to lie, would it?

Fair enough. I suppose Pentagon is more crediblle than the North Korean government and its subjects. And I'll cocede that it's more likely that he was a defecter rather than an abductee.

But that doesn't change the fact that whether he defected is under dispute, and the only people who know for sure are Jenkins himself and North Korean officials.
Remember that North Koreans lied for 20 years about kidnapping Japanese nationals, and they're only now admitting the fact after heavy pressure from the Japanese government. Now, the US isn't persuing the Jenkins case - or any other cases of US servicemen who disappeared in Korea, nor has Pyongyang been forthcoming about POWs/MIAs.

That's my concern. Of all Jenkins articles I found on the internet, most of them do not provide details of his deflection. They simply labelled him as the "American deflector", but with no explaination of his deflection. Oddly, the ones that provided details said that Jeinkins just disappeared from his post and was never been seen again.

Only in 1996 the Pentagon started to classify Jenkins as a deflector. So between 1965 and 1996, the US government could not classify him as a deflector. No one knew whether he deflected or capturned.

And in 1997, North Koreans visiting the US did tell his sister that he was still alive. And the US government wanted to interview him for information in other MIA in North Korea

According to this article, Jenkins left four defection notes, and he all but concedes he defected.

"Jenkins conceded his legal predicament earlier this month, while bidding farewell to Soga in Pyongyang as she boarded a Tokyo-bound jet for her Japanese homecoming. He told a Japanese diplomat that he decided to stay behind because of the problems he might face."

what, you don't take freedom for Tibetans very seriously?

Why do Tibetans deserve less freedom than you or I?

I'm not trying to argue with you, since I believe Jenkins more than likely defected, but it is still curious that despite the existence of the defection notes, Pentagon didn't classify him as a deserter until North Korea acknowledged him as such.

That's the whole point..... from 1965 to 1996, the notes were debated.

Except the statement made below, Shenhua is one of five posters who made sense and know the materials below. As for Chachi King, he is just a kid who has inferior complex. He is the biggiest loser on Bigsoccer. I don't blame him if I call myself Chachi King. I would be just liked him.
