Aaronson starts the season finale. ⏳ Eine Stunde vor Anpfiff: Wir haben unsere Startelf für euch! #RBSSKA— FC Red Bull Salzburg (@RedBullSalzburg) May 21, 2022
Sources: With their Premier League survival, Leeds United are finalizing a deal to acquire RB Salzburg's USMNT attacker Brenden Aaronson. Deal around $30 million was previously agreed to, pending relegation. Final steps now.Aaronson, 21, spent 18 months at Salzburg. pic.twitter.com/Bpp85jQD5x— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) May 22, 2022
It will be a fascinating transfer. I don't think the EPL is the best fit for him, but Leeds style is the perfect fit for him for sure. I watched their game today, and besides realizing they REALLY need to shore up their defense and midfield (Brentford has a couple of transition opportunities even when they were down to 9 men), they really play in a way that should give Aaronson every chance to hit the ground running. So many transitions opportunities. Aaronson should get lot of chances to get on the ball on the break and make the final pass or atleast continue the break. His off the ball work should also lead to a lot of chances too.
Having watched Leeds since Jesse took over and adopting the team, I can tell you that they need a CAM like Aaronson. Harrison plays the leftside of the attack but he never seems to have a descent link man on that side to work with.
This is an active hot topic as you can imagine but one of the more interesting comments on this is here: 3 other clubs.— Taylor Twellman (@TaylorTwellman) May 22, 2022 Basically Twellman is saying 3 other clubs had an offer for 30 million too.
He's one of the most reliable sources for MLS transfers (it probably helps that he publishes on MLS's official website). In Aaronson's case, he was one of the first sources -- if not the first -- to break the Aaronson to Salzburg news, so I'm assuming he's maintained his access there.
If he goes to Leeds I hope I eat crow. Relegation fodder teams for Yanks have a very poor history. I hope he moves through the Red Bull system instead
Agreed. Leeds need a lot of investment. It's going to be tough to stay out of relegation fight again even with some additional investment. Big number around Brendan's head.. I hope he's up for it- the fans will be brutal when in a downslide. Wishing him the best. Mentally, he's gonna have to bring it (up/downs not easy in the Prem). His production (goals/assists) will also have to go up a lot to justify $30 million transfer. Simply put, to succeed- he needs to raise his game & consistency at least a level.
They (Leipzig) have to want him first. Is Leeds really a relegation fodder team? I prefer to think of them as having had a down season this year.
They may well want him, but they probably want $30m more. In the Bundesliga $30m is still a ton of money to spend on a player.
does anyone know much Salzburg got for Halaand when he went to Dortmund? Seems RB Salzburg have made some good money on transfers the past couple of years.
Hopefully Bamford comes back good as new. BA would certainly thrive with another goal scorer in front of him. I don't even know what happened to Bamford. Knee?
Leeds need at least two strikers this window. At least. Bamford is regularly injured and has absolutely no one behind him. Gerlhardt is a try hard
Well the money *is* really high … but I still hate this move. Look forward to being proven wrong, but Leeds feel like such a clown show.
This year was a down year, the last several years they’ve been a really good club, including their Prem year
Far from a clown show. The issue is the squad has been very thin. they finished 3rd in the championship, then 1st, then 9th in the prem - that's the sign of a pretty strong squad, but once the injury bug hit this year they finished 17th. If Bamford stays healthy and Marsch is given enough funds to add some depth, they should look to stay up for a while. The fan base is huge which means revenues should be solid, so unless they have some other things going on we are not privvy to - i wouldn't go putting them in my top 5 to be relegated next year.
