This appears to be confirmation of the deal from Salzburg, per Sky Sports Austria: https://www.skysportaustria.at/salz...ronson-wird-im-winter-nach-salzburg-wechseln/ Salzburg managing director Reiter confirms: US talent Aaronson will move to Salzburg in winter The quote they've pulled from Reiter in that article doesn't seem as clear as that headline, but I'm going to assume from all of the reporting that this is a done deal.
Here is a new article that even has quotes from Tanner: https://www.skysportaustria.at/salzburg-darf-sich-freuen-aaronson-ist-eine-pressing-maschine/ I like how our SD is giving interviews in Austria and we aren't even announcing it yet.
Yeah that article has quotes from everyone, including Jesse Marsch. It sounds like they're still finalizing some minor details, and I guess there's no pressing transfer-day deadline here since this is a winter-transfer.
Breaking news:The Union's sale of Brenden Aaronson to Red Bull Salzburg at the end of the season is now official. I'm told it's for $6 million, plus up to $3 million in performance incentives and a 10-20% sell-on fee depending on the next destination:https://t.co/GXrPwc6rey pic.twitter.com/siWfFL6Ks7— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) October 16, 2020
Now that it's official, I would be happy to amend: The American Havertz: Brenden Aaronson at RB Salzburg

Because I was curious where $6 million fits in Salzburg's prior transfer history, here's a list from Transfermarkt of the highest transfer fees paid by RB Salzburg in the past 10 years (and in parentheses I've included where those players are now): 2020: Noah Okafor - $12.32m (still at Salzburg) 2019: Maximilian Wöber - $11.55m (still at Salzburg) 2019: Erling Haaland - $8.8m (Borussia Dortmund starter) 2021: Brenden Aaronson - $6m 2019: Rasmus Kristensen - $5.5m (still at Salzburg) 2017: Munas Dabbur - $5.5m (Hoffenheim starter) 2020: Oumar Solet - $4.95m (still at Salzburg) 2012: Sadio Mane - $4.4m (Liverpool starter) 2018: Karim Adeyemi - $3.69m (still at Salzburg) 2012: Kevin Kampl - $3.3m (RB Leipzig starter)
official a big wasserman guy Congrats @AaronsonBrenden on the move to @RedBullSalzburg 👊🏼! Excited to see what the future holds and to have helped another @MLS Homegrown player transfer to Europe. #TeamWass #USMNT 🇺🇸 https://t.co/0mJ4HAb5VK— Richard Motzkin (@RichardMotzkin) October 16, 2020
Jesse Marsch on how he sees Aaronson fitting in at Salzburg in his scheme: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020...brenden-aaronson-has-big-future-not-just-here "I think he can play when we play with two 10s. I think he can play in that position,” Marsch said. "Sometimes we play with a number 10 underneath a striker or underneath two strikers. I certainly feel like he can play that way. He's played the 8 sometimes in a diamond with Philadelphia. I think he can do that really well. And I think he's capable of playing a six, especially if he has more defensive minded six playing next to him and he's got a little bit more freedom to move around with and without the ball. So I think the combination of his natural abilities, his intelligence and again, his desire, his desire to be a big part of the game, his desire to have an effect in the game means that if you put him anywhere in the midfield, he's going to do well.” Marsch also lauds his workrate and his pressing foremost in that interview, and then his direct attacking play and comfort in tight spaces.
There was a separate ESPN report today listing him as one of three MLS players "under consideration" by Barcelona.
That's a hefty chunk of change for the kid, and great business for Philly. Very happy for Brendon. Puts some pressure on both him and club for this to turn out well- paying that much money for him should buy him some leeway at the club. They are well invested now.
https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020...s-transfer-rb-salzburg-makes-sense-tom-bogert Aaronson was a wanted commodity, there were plenty of potential options. It was about finding the right place for the player's development as well as a deal that made sense for the Union. Celtic, Anderlecht, Hoffenheim and many other clubs were interested in Aaronson, but RB Salzburg proved to be the perfect fit.
Aaronson being added to an attack with Sucic, Daka, and Szoboszlai should be very entertaining... and honestly all 4 are likely gonna make Salzburg insane money in transfers
Doing some "homework" on @AaronsonBrenden transfer from @PhilaUnion to @RedBullSalzburg: $6.5m now$1m if he plays 20 games$500k UCL (which already did) Contrary to reports this is closer to a $9m deal than $6m unless something TRAGIC happens to him.
