So I'd imagine it would be a similar mindset for McKenzie too? If they do keep them both that is a strong team
Aaronson's career is really going to stall since he's being coached from one Chivas USA stalwart to another.
i think curtin has done awfully well by aaronson and helping lead his club to a title would also impart some valuable lessons before jesse gets to work with him
https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020...-reach-verbal-agreement-over-transfer-brenden The Philadelphia Union and RB Salzburg have reached a verbal agreement over the transfer of Brenden Aaronson, sources tell MLSsoccer.com. The deal is not yet finalized. Aaronson still has to undergo a medical and finalize small details. Aaronson will remain with the Union through the end of the 2020 season before joining Salzburg.
The medical thing would be tricky I’m sure in today’s world. Maybe instead of Aaronson flying to Austria, the team medics would come to Philly?
Not too much news here but there's a quote today from Salzburg's sporting director Christoph Freund in the Kronen Zeitung, Austria's biggest newspaper: He was asked if Aaronson would be coming this winter, and it says he responded confidently that he hopes they can get that wrapped up. (He flat out denied any interest when asked about another player, so I'm guessing his responding confidently to the Aaronson question means something.)
Didn't see it mentioned, but it was reported on yesterday's Toronto-Philly telecast that the range for Aaronson's agreed transfer fee is 6-8 million. Not quite the transfer fee befitting of the American Havertz, but solid nonetheless coming from MLS.
Wow. I’ll be surprised if it’s over 6m. I’d guess it would’ve been 4. *he’s worth every penny, but mls sells are typically lower*
Yeah 6-8 surprises me, but maybe I was just pessimistic. Absolutely amazing sale if true though. It sounds like the TFC commentators mentioned it though so I wonder where their sources are from. Could be Tanner's experience here coming in real handy and allowing him to demand a better price.
Solid undersells it, I think. $6 million would be the 6th-highest MLS sale of all time, $8 million would be tied for 4th (3rd and T-1st for Americans, respectively). I admittedly haven't watched much of Aaronson, but that seems like an excellent fee for someone with his resume.
In my humble opinion - and I say this as someone who thinks Jim Curtin is one of the better American coaches in the game - I am worried that Aaronson is getting overworked. The condensed schedule is very taxing and Aaronson is simply not used to this frequency of games for so long. In terms of what he's asking his body to do since the restart might be too much. It's like he's gone from 2nd gear to 5th gear with no stops in between.
It's almost certainly a much smaller one than FCD has been greedily finagling. This will be to the detriment of future transfer potential. So it may be short-sighted for them & hinder player movement. Philly may be positioning themselves as the most player friendly academy in the country. If you watch their broadcasts, they sell their system hard to the families of kids in the area or outside it who may be able to move for years.
Sources: Brenden Aaronson’s transfer from the Philadelphia Union to RB Salzburg is all but done. Aaronson had his medical last week, went smoothly as expected. Will join the Champions League side in January.— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) October 5, 2020
It's more a comment on how, when it comes to transfer news, the phrase "all but done" suggests "announcement imminent" but really means "deal is somewhere between 5 minutes and 6 weeks away from completion"
Yes, but a successful medical sounds like a definite step forward. Are you trying to Bogert Duke's momentum?
