Just to see if there is any general consensus on the greatest player of all time.

By the way i'm sure I will have left out somebody's favourite so just write in their name.

You should have called that poll "all-time greatest offensive players", because I don`t see any defensive players in that poll, and at least a defensive player like Franz Beckenbauer should have been included.

    Puskas gets my vote.

Personally, I would have left Platini and Baggio (on what basis is he on this list? - I would not even rate him in the top 100) off and replaced them with Bozsik and Beckenbauer.

He is on the list because in almost every poll or list of the last 5 years he crops up in the top 10 or 20, and virtually carried Italy through to the 94 final single handedly. Also, you always get people who want more recent players, who they've actually seen in polls. As for the top 100 you really are exagerrating.
Platini is on for his magical displays in 84 as well as for Juventus and 3 european player of the year awards can't be too bad.
They were the last 2 piks on the list and Beckenbauer would have been the next pick.

Full of talent, full of class, he's going on 40 and he's still Arsenal's and England's go-to keeper. What's your opinion? Just curious.

Just off the top of my head I'd put Zoff, Yashin, Jennings, Schmeichel, Southall, Banks, Peruzzi, Zenga ahead. Probably alot more as well, but everyone has their own opinion.

Well, let's take a quick look at Seaman:

    World Cup Winner? No.
    European Cup Winner? No.
Domestic League Titles? Two, maybe Three if they hold on, which they probably will.

England's First Choice Keeper? Yes, but only because David James is crap, and Paul Robinson and Nigel Martyn are not much better...

Or we could just some it up with one word: Ronaldinho

    But that's a bit unfair I'll admit.

Dino Zoff or that Lev Yashin can never pick between the two.

Then tell us why Pele doesn't merit the votes.

Cause he´s overrated by you and the others who vote for him.

Here is how these threads traditionally work, just to save time:

    1. Most people vote for Pele. Polite society demands it. He wins.

    2. People who want to appear rebellious vote for Maradona. He comes in second.

    3. People who want to appear "in the know" vote for Di Stefano. He comes in third.

    4. English people vote for George Best. He comes in fourth, unless there is a preponderance of English people reading the thread, in which case he comes in third or, in very rare cases, second.

    5. A bunch of people vote for their favorite player from their favorite club. They amass about three votes apiece, tops.

Of course, the "Freddy Factor" may turn this entire thing upside down by the end of the summer. I can't believe it took three replies before Ombak got his name out...

Sorry to have brought up a thread which comes up so often, but that must mean something.

I agree a bit with what dave marino-nachison said.

But here is why I think Pele is the greatest. His record speaks for itself. 3 world cups, 92 caps, 97 goals, 1363 games, 1281 goals.

2 WorldCups, hardly played in 62.And those goals, well half scored on promotion travels with Santos.Other players have such records too,if they like Pele´s too are true.
Good player, but not the magic of Maradona.Pele wasn´t a playmaker either but a striker.

I accept that his contribution to 62 was small and that many of his goals were scored in nothing games but he still was a god. BTW I worship Maradona as well, and the link you put up is brilliant.

According to the Guinness Record of World Football, Pelé has scored 77 times in 92 Fifa-A matches.

Why is Gerd Müller never part of these polls? He`s the all-time top scorer at World Cups and all three European Cups (EC I, II & Uefa, combined).
