    Markus von Ahlen

Markus von Ahlen played for Bundesliga clubs Leverkusen(1989-90, 1991-end of 1993)and Bochum(1994-85). He was a midfielder with 38 league games played, 2 goals scored and 4 yellow cards. He had 2 seasons as a parttime player and 2 others where he was merely a reserve with one partial campaign - the first half of 1993-94 - in which he failed to make any appearances before transferring to then 2nd division Bochum at midseason. After the latter club got relegated from the BL in 1995 he spent the last 7 seasons of his profi career playing for 2nd division clubs. His best use would have been as a situational bench player and maybe as an occasional starter.

    Rainer Aigner

Aigner played in defense for Bayern in 1990-91 and Duesseldorf in 1991-92. With the Munich club he only made 1 appearance with nothing good or bad on the scoresheet to his name while with Fortuna he got into 16 games which included 3 yellow cards(and no goals). He was an underweight player for his height IMO.

    Charles Akonnor

Ghana native Akonnor played in midfield from 1998 to 18 January 2004 with Bundesliga club Wolfsburg so he should get some loyalty points for not jumping to another club in the league in that time. His first 4 seasons were played as a fulltimer; in season number 5 he was reduced to parttime action and his last season with Wolfsburg didn't really happen as the club kept him out of action until his midseason transfer to 2nd division Unterhaching. He was easily too thin for both his height and for the demands placed on BL players by the long season. He did provide some support for his teammates up front with 13 goals and 7 assists in 121 career games in the first division. Unfortunately he also accumulated 19 yellow cards and 1 yellow/red card. I had the idea at the time that he was supposed to be a creative playmaking type of player.

    Jonathan Akpoborie

Akpoborie came from Nigeria to play in the Bundesliga for Rostock(early 1996-1997), Stuttgart(1997-99) and Wolfsburg(1999-2001). As a striker he was on the small side so he would have been most comfortable on the wing. He had 4 consecutive seasons - 1996-2000 - where he scored in double figures with his 14 strikes in 1996-97 with Rostock serving as his best single season goal total. For a forward he had a lot of problems keeping himself out of trouble; his time in the league was marred by 24 yellow cards and 1 red card. He had 4 seasons as a fulltimer and another 2 playing parttime. His career BL stats included 6 assists.

I'll Go With That For Now

I was thinking of a case like that of Gerd Kleppinger for whom I've seen pics of him with Darmstadt, Schalke, Dortmund and Uerdingen. For all I know there may also be one of him with his other Bundesliga club Karlsruhe but so far I haven't come across one. Fortunately there aren't very many other BL players in that situation.

    Erhan Albayrak

Turkish-born Albayrak was a forward at first then a midfielder who played in the Bundesliga for Bremen in 1995-96 and Bielefeld in 2002-03. Because of his shorter stature he probably played outside. Werder only used him in 2 games where all he did was pick up a yellow card while with Arminia he made 16 appearances with 1 goal scored and 4 yellow cards accumulated. He clearly was not an everyday player with either of his 2 BL clubs.

    Joerg Albracht

Albracht was a backup goalkeeper with Schalke from 1994 to 1996. He only got into 2 games and both of those were in his second season with the club. He had the bad luck to back up Jens Lehmann in the Schalke goal. He was tall enough to be effective but less weight would have given him more much-needed mobility.

    Thorsten Albustin

Albustin was strictly a backup goalkeeper with Bundesliga clubs Duisburg in 1996-97 and Moenchengladbach in 1998-99. With MSV he got into 1 game while with Borussia he appeared twice. In his service with Gladbach he picked up a yellow card.

    Ralf Allgoewer

Ralf Allgoewer was the younger brother of more accomplished attacker Karl Allgoewer. The younger Allgoewer played in the Bundesliga for VfB Stuttgart in 1986-87 and crosstown rivals Stuttgarter Kickers in 1988-89. He played striker for VfB and scored a goal while picking up a yellow card in 2 appearances; as a midfielder for Kickers he played in 11 games but did not generate any other statistics. He was quite tall and more weight would have done him good; finding a suitable position must have been difficult for him.

    Sergio Allievi

Allievi played as an underweight striker for Kaiserslautern(1986-90)and Dynamo Dresden(1991-92). His first 3 Bundesliga seasons were fulltime; the latter 2 were parttime. Against his 15 league career goals were matched 15 yellow cards and 2 red cards.

    Dieter Allig

Alig is here because he has a decent pic. He was on the Frankfurt roster in 1978-79 but never saw action. He would be there only to provide midfield depth for his club.

    Uenal Alpugan

Alpugan played for Schalke from 1998 to 2001 in midfield. In his 1st season he appeared in 15 Bundesliga games scoring once and picking up 2 yellow cards; in season 2 he played in 26 games with 2 assists and 1 yellow card to his name; by season 3 he was just about done in the league playing in 1 game and doing nothing else to add to his career statistics. He left the BL in 2001 to play in Turkey.

    Alex Alves

Brazilian-born Alves played striker for Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin from 1999 to 2003. In his 1st season he was only a parttimer but after that he attained fulltime status. In 81 league games he scored 25 times, got 9 assists and picked up 2 yellow cards and 2 red cards. He looks to have been a little bit overweight for his height.

    Moudachirou Amadou

I hope this player has a nickname or other short version of his first name; his present first name is probably too lengthy for comfort. Anyway, Amadou played defense for Bundesliga club St. Pauli in the 2001-02 season. He made 21 appearances picking up 3 yellow cards. I guess offense to him must have been a foreign concept.

    Klaus Amrath

Amrath was on the Moenchengladbach roster from 1977 to 1980 at forward and was only used in the middle season of the 3 where he scored twice in 8 games and stayed away from trouble with no cards to his name. He represents good value to have around in deep reserve at the striker position.

    Sascha Amstaetter

Amstaetter played the 1998-99 Bundesliga season in midfield with Frankfurt and statistics-wise did nothing except pick up 2 yellow cards in his 2 league appearances. He wasn't a big player so the common wisdom would have had him playing outside.

    Chrissovalantis Anagnostou

I was unable to find a pic for this Greek-born player. Anagnostou really should be known by a shorter nickname; what he has now is too long and can wear a person out just trying to get through it. Well, his long name notwithstanding, he played midfield for Moenchengladbach from 1997 to 1999. In those 2 seasons he played 12 games and collected 3 yellow cards. He was on the small side so he probably played on the outside and with no goals to his credit he likely also concentrated on defending.

    Antonio Ananiev

Ananiev was a backup goalkeeper in the Bundesliga for Cologne in the 1996-97 season. In only 4 appearances he managed on 1 occasion to get shown the red card for his only statistical "accomplishment".

    Rainer Doerr

Doerr is another player for whom I was unable to find a portrait pic. He barely got his foot in the Bundesliga door, playing in only 1 game in 1976-77 for Frankfurt and not even doing that - no appearances - with Saarbruecken in 1985-86. His lone league appearance playing in defense was not enough for him to build up any stats.

    Mustafa Dogan

Dogan played in defense for Uerdingen from 1994 to 96(the club was still known as Bayer Uerdingen in his first season there; by his second season the name was changed to KFC Uerdingen)and Cologne(2003-04). His league career spanned 56 games and included 1 goal and the accumulation of 12 yellow cards. He was seldom used in his first BL season but for his latter 2 campaigns he attained fulltime status. For his height he was in my belief underweight thus making it harder for him to find a suitable position.

    Rolf Dohmen

I could not find a suitable pic for this player. Dohmen played from 1980 to 1982 in defense for Karlsruhe. He was a fulltimer both seasons with 1 goal and 11 cards(10 yellow and 1 red).

    Christian Dollberg

Argentine-born Dollberg played in defense in 1995-96 for Cologne. He got into 11 games and picked up a yellow card for his only in-game career statistic. He was big enough to be used in central defense.

    Tibor Dombi

Dombi, from Hungary, played midfield for Frankfurt in 1999-2000. He put in 15 appearances picking up 2 assists and a yellow card. It appears that his main task was to serve as setup man for the Eintracht strikers.

    Christian Dondera

Dondera seemed to me at the time like one of those promising young players that never managed to live up to expectations. He was on Uerdingen's roster from 1988 to 1990 as a midfielder but he never played a minute either with Bayer or with any other Bundesliga club, settling instead for 2 seasons with second division Rot-Weiss Essen to mark his entire profi career. It looks like he took a pretty nice picture, though.
