Apparently, some not too bright people thought the black space on the top and bottom came from cropping the top and bottom off the movie. And I remember something from Roger Ebert (the wonders of Google): http://www.raptorial.com/Zine/b-buster.htm Join me as I laugh in horror at the ignorance, including Blockbuster's founder. It's hard not to be condescending to these... um, ignoramuses.
I'm definitely looking forward to getting my copy of the Indiana Jones boxed set, one of my favourite movies of all time along with the Back To The Future trilogy.
It's interesting that you mention the Back to the Future trilogy (also among my favorite movies): both the video and the audio on those DVD's were digitally "cleaned up" to the point that they actually look and sound like recently-made movies, in contrast to most movies from before the mid-1990's that are ported over to DVD, which have the video (and oftentimes the audio) left exactly "as is" (which is definitely obvious when viewing them on DVD).       From what I've read, the Indiana Jones trilogy DVD's will have the same type of digital "clean up" for both their video and audio (including an added Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound format). -G
I know that blockbuster has been a pan-and-scanner company in the past but I read a story that quoted the blockbuster CEO saying that they're only gonna order widescreen titles on dvd from now on 'because the consumers have spoken.' I guarantee that the dude said it. i'll look around for a link and get back to you .... but can we at least agree blockbuster is a bunch of dorks either way?
Here are some little-known tidbits about the Indiana Jones saga: 1) Tom Selleck was originally cast as Indiana Jones. 2) Danny DeVito was originally cast as Sallah. 3) The U-boat used in Raiders of the Lost Ark was also the same one used in Wolfgang Petersen's Das Boot.       -G
Absolultely. I don't care what they stock. I'll never be their customer. Getting back to the thread, my copy of the boxed set showed up in the mail today! DVDPlanet.com rocks for pre-orders.
DVDPlanet does it all the time. I usually get my pre-orders on the Saturday before the Tuesday release date.
I wish I had known about DVDPlanet. I had pre-ordered the boxed set from Suncoast and have to wait until Tuesday. -G
There's a store around the corner from me that's been selling the box set for about two weeks now. This is actually common practice, as they usually start selling title about a week or so before they are scheduled to be released. I'm not sure how they get away with it, but they've been doing it for years, and everyone here knows about it. They're on the web as well... http://www.dvd-plus.com Apparently they do a lot of pre-sales online as well.
I got the boxed set and 28 Days Later on DVD on Thursday. It's nice to have the hook ups. The picture and sound on the DVD's for Indy is awesome. It's definitely a great set to buy.
You're all fortunate to have gotten the boxed set already. On the other hand, I received a call from Suncoast yesterday informing me that my boxed set will be ready for pick-up on Tuesday. -G
