Wake dominated the game and the stats...just couldn't get a goal until the final buzzer. It was a great result for the Deacs who are now 5-4-1 overall and 2-2 in the ACC. The schedule doesn't get any easier as Wake has to travel to Boston College for an Oct. 7th, Friday night game. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that BC does any live streaming of games...just gametracker
I asked Kelly Finlay about this in early September. He was effusive that Sonny was a good kid, working hard, and uninjured, but that he likes the 2 kids in front of him. I got to watch Sonny play the next game. While I can understand Kelly's concern with Sonny's defensive tactical positioning and 1v1 marking, the loss of Sonny's athleticism is a large gap.
I watched the Duke - UNC game on tv. It was really hard to sit through. Both teams must have had a bad game because the whole game was a load of jungle ball. NO passing, just kicking. Schuler is a clutch player. Enzo, didn't see much out of him, but I've seen him in the past and he's a performer. Lovejoy is an absolute blackhole. I don't think I saw him do one productive thing the entire game. I'd rather have a slow but efficient Urso on the field. Wenger is an offensive threat, and polodachuk is a gamer as well. Other than that Duke was mediocre.

For as many tries as some forwards have vs Lovejoy, Lovejoy does well. He has more of a team concept to his game. Forwards repeatedly running it up the middle and getting stuffed are black holes too, I would think.
Quite a few of these guys are doing well on a national level. The NCAA website has Wenger at #2 in the country in points per game, with Bates #6, Martinez #10, and Townsend #15. http://www.ncaa.com/stats/soccer-men/d1/current/individual/4/p1
For some reason they've robbed Townsend of a goal at the NCAA site. Wonder if it's a mistake or if Maryland's stats (my source) are wrong. Wenger's story continues to amaze. He's among the leaders in goals AND assists. His six helpers is one off the national lead, shared by a few players including Enzo Martinez. Pretty damn good for a guy who played defender last year. If he keeps this up, I suspect he'll be one of the three finalists for the Hermann.
If the season ended today, Wenger, Townsend, and Martinez might even be the three Hermann finalists. I think it's the ACC's year. Btw I checked the ACC site, and it has Townsend with 11 goals. On an unrelated note, I also checked Notre Dame's site, and it has Ryan Finley with 3 goals and no assists. Disappointing.
No Zardes? Yeah, I don't think he's even starting for them. Though, the game I saw them play on TV against Louisville, he played more than the person he replaced. Still, surprising he isn't starting for Notre Dame. It's not like the Irish are so loaded at forward they don't have room for him. Curious what the story is there.
Big match on Friday as Maryland goes to Virginia. UVA's had its share of troubles and the Terps are rolling; will Townsend and co. pace Maryland to a win?
That's a great question. Dante Washington may have. Now I'm gonna have to go look that up. So much for my lunch hour. Stoopid Bisbee! Stoopid OCD!
No. Bakersfield is too obscure and hasn't gone out of its way to make a splash. They didn't even schedule anyone from the Pac-6 this year. With the team they have right now, that's a shame. I'd also be curious to see McKauly Tulloch play. After transferring from Akron, he's leading the nation in scoring, and UCF is 8-1-1. Even in spite of that, I think it's the ACC's year.
Ok, in 1988 AS A FRESHMAN Dante Washington of Radford led D-I in goals-scored with 27 and in assists with 22. Granted, Radford's strength of schedule wasn't the greatest, but those are some sick stats, especially for a freshman. It may have been done previously but I'm 99 percent sure it hasn't been done since.
Akron will always have a favorable position nationally; they're clearly one of the top programs. I'm excited to head to UVA for this one; got a nice 2-0 result out of the trip last year.
I only see once that two players from the same school have shared the two titles, which would seem easier. That was 2007 when Connecticut's Mike Pezza led assists while O'Brian White led goals
