So how bad does the Pack have to do for Tarantini to be replaced? Is this the year? I hate to wish ill on my alma mater, however....

There is a new AD in town, so who knows. I somewhat doubt, however, that replacing Tarantini will be her first priority.

I agree that Tarantini won't be Debbie Yow's first priority.

However, she was a big suppoter of Sasho Cirovski while she was at Maryland and she's not one of those AD's that's oblivious to soccer. She knows what an ACC program can achieve if properly supported and I imagine she'll expect the Pack to strive for that level.

Also, Yow played a big part in helping Sasho tone down his sideline demeanor. She expects the coach to reflect the values of the school. (At least when they're not making money; Gary Williams can pretty much do what he wants on the sideline but then he generates millions for the school.) Tarantini is, to be polite, a lunatic on the sideline and unlike Sasho a few years ago, is likely far too old and set in his ways to change.

I won't be at all surprised if Tarantini is nudged aside this offseason and replaced with a younger coach with the energy and ability to mirror what Sasho did at Maryland.

    Ugh, that's horrible.

Was hoping that Schuler would have a big year and head into the draft. As it is now, he probably won't come out until 2012.

Thanks for the update! Inspired by this news, I looked up a little bit more about her, and read that she was also AD at St. Louis U., so there is more soccer in the stew. Lets hope for the best!

Yes, I believe Yow was at SLU at about the same time as Brian McBride.

So she definitely has been around some high-profile and successful college soccer programs, coaches and players.

Like I said, updgrading the men's soccer program won't be her first priority at State. But unlike many ADs, she won't ignore or be ambivalent to men's soccer, either.

Interestingly, she inherited both of the men's soccer coaches she's had work for her. Joe Clarke had been on the job for several years when she was hired (and was still there when she left for College Park in 94) and Sasho was about a year into his tenure when she got to Maryland.

So she's never actually hired a men's soccer coach. I wonder if she'd like to and what type of coach she'd want.

They ended up scoring four against BU as striker Edvin Worley made his season debut and scored tonight.

Worley's a really good college player and I think he'll make BC's offense much better. I didn't realize he hadn't played before last night.

In other games, Clemson and Virginia Tech squandered their best chance for a conference win by tying each other.

And Carolina got a late goal from reserve Bruno Castro to beat Duke 1-0.

    Wake Forest 1, Virginia 0.

Deacs turn the table on Virginia as despite getting outshot, they come away with the W, similar to what happened in reverse last year.

And a brace by Jason Herrick, who I think came to College Park with Twellman and Califf, gives Maryland a 3-1 win over State.

SM - I didn't see a smiley, so put down the adult beverage. Twellman & Califf were before the Garey, Thompson, Mediate, Seitz, era.

Heels beat Wofford in OT. Wofford scored on a PK late. Basically sat in bunker all night. They drew a late 50/50 call for a PK. Luckly Eddie scored off a bad play by a wofford defender. Kirk scored on free kick. Brett King is a average defender. Maryland will kill them if they can't learn how to finish. I swear they rather pass the ball around than try to score.

Virginia is gonna regret not beating Wake when they were down, I'm afraid.

Meanwhile, Maryland beat George Mason 2-0.

it is unfortunate that the 3 guys that are their attackers are out with injuries, Elmar said it best after last nites game that someone is going to have to become the attacker and it will take time to play a style that maybe is not the most comfortable for them to try.
It will come before the season is over and they should still be solid all year long. Too athletic to not be there at the end.
Look out next year though, I would suspect Billy and Cameron will come back with lots of fire.

I'm sick of the excuses with Elmar. He still has a stack deck with players every team would love. For once beat Maryland. I don't know how many times he's been outcoached by Sasho. His team was flater than a pancake for Akron at home. Which was pathetic to say the least. Please put Brett King on the bench for any other defender.

Clemson gets their first W of the season with a 1-0 OT win over in-state rival Furman. The goal was just the Tigers third in 5 games.

Meanwhile, NC State padded their record with a 5-1 win over Presbyterian.

Considering the state of Clemson's program, that's a good win. They ran out 14 guys, 8 of them freshmen. By the time those freshmen are seniors, they should be pretty tough.

I'll be interested to see if Wake can beat a non ACC team. They're 0-3-1 out of conference this season.
