    Wow, 4-2 Kumiyama!
Chukyodaichukyo had very little besides Miyaichi.

Even when they were leading I didnt have much confidence that Chukyo would go far. Their defence sucked, and apart from Miyachi and the one other striker, their attack was pretty weak as well. Its a shame he didnt have some decent teammates. I would have liked to see him at least one more time.

Guys, but we need to give some kudos to Kumiyama as well.

I expected them to be wiped away, but they really played well and deserved it. They don't have any amazing player (except perhaps #14 Adachi, who is not very strong physically, thou...), but they all did their part egregiously.

In all honesty, if Ritsumeikan Uji would have made it, we would have probably lost. We don't have Kumiyama's passing skill and our weak spots were the GK and the two side backs...

Blegh... I did not watch the 1st amazing half. I watched 2nd half and dissapointed with the result. Chukyodai always being attacked, the better team won though... congrats!

Yes you are right, I ended up with upset and tired eyes. But it is fun to watch ... still many students besides Miyaichi are also talented, thats the bottom line

Miyaichi is unlucky I'd say... 2 clear chances but he cant make any. Maybe he start to get the pressure from media in carrying Arsenal name or still not 100% fit

Thanks to all the Tokyo-area stations and the internet feed of Chukuo-Kumiyama, I got to see parts of four matches. Of the ones I saw Seibudai probably was the most impressive team but even they were not world-beaters. From what Ive heard the early money is on two perrennial powers -Maebashi Ikuei and Takigawa.

Wouldve loved to see the Matsusho - Yasu match, though. . . . . .

Does anybody know where we can download/watch recordings of any of the games? In particular of Yamanashi Gakuin.

Is there (could there be) any attempt at seeding the schools? I'm planning to go see the semis and am disappointed that out of Yamanashi, Maebashi, Ryutsu Keizai, Shizuoka, Takigawa and Aomori - six of the "big names" - no more than two will be playing. I've been to some pretty one-sided semis, and even finals, in the past. Seems a pity...

You're too generous. They have been a disgrace to Aichi prefecture for years. No spirit and even less tactical nous. The only reason they get to the finals is that the level of high school football is so low here - and they seem to turn up talents like Miyaichi. I just hope he won't end up as another Sho Ito.

Re: The 89th All-Nippon High School Tournament Official Thread [R]

Ok, I don't rate my own school (Ritsumaikan Uji) too high this year: as said, we had only seven third-graders (12th graders), and only four of them know how to play football.

Still, Kumiyama struggled to beat us, when we had six 2nd graders and one 1st grader on the pitch.

Now they have made it to the best-8, and mostly by playing good football. Adachi and Sugimoto have grown into very good high school players, and Hayashi is quite amazing as a first grader.

I don't know how far they can go, so far they met teams that seemed even weaker than Ritsumeikan Uji, hopefully the quarter-final will tell us something, as they will probably meet Osaka Daigaku First -- a rather kick-ass team.

On any case, kudos to the boys, ordinary footballers at a public school with a bumpy hard ground, and to their coach Matsumoto, a lovely soccer ojisan.

Wow. Shizuoka Gakuen and Maebashi out at penalties...

Kansai derby ahead on the 5th, that should be a hell of a game.

FYI (and [not!] to show off), Miyaichi's article on goal.com was the article that had the most single hits ever for the Asia section, now around 20,000. -- Thanks Arsenal fans!!

In comparison articles on J.League are sometimes as low as 1,000 hits... :(

We complained about the dumb blind draft, but actually many of the big guns fell against allegedly lowly opponents...

Only Yamanashi and Kansai Uni. 1st seem to have survived among the favorite, and at this point I am not sure the latter will easily dispose of Kumiyama.

Were they really outplayed, or were they just not focused enough? It's such an intense tournament. I watched Hiroshima Kannon outplay their opponents for 75 minutes last year then lose it in the last five, it was crazy. Sometimes I think these boys need inhuman powers of concentration to make it all the way.

I was assuming that Takigawa and Ryutsu Keizai were among the favourites, but that is not so? I guess the level changes so much from year to year that it must be tricky to judge. One way to get rid of "big guns" seems to be to practice your penalty-taking and then play defensive for eighty minutes! Not a bad plan in such an intensive tournament. Anyway, I guess we are all behind Kumiyama now :)
