Solidsport claims that it is streaming the whole tournament: https://solidsport.com/u20-cairo I just paid $5 to watch the USA/Norway match. The almost two hour stream is just a black screen with access to the chat, which has disgruntled people venting about paying to watch games that aren't actually available. It seems that Solidsport only broadcast one game so far. Heads up. I asked for a refund, which I will get either directly from these crooks or from my credit card company. I also asked them if Tuesday's match vs. Colombia will be available; not holding my breath for an answer or for a direct refund.
They gave me a refund and explained that the games will not be broadcasted. Why are they available to purchase? ********ers.
The starting lineup GK: Diego Kochen Defense: Frankie Westfield, Ethan Kohler, Nolan Norris, Tate Johnson Midfield: Brooklyn Raines, Pedro Soma, Benjamin Cremaschi Wings: Luke Brennan Peyton Miller Forward: Ngoma Zambrano replaced Ngoma in the second half
Did I miss a post or has no-one mentioned the draw from a couple of weeks ago (I missed it, I saw that it was going to be in June but never saw posted when, then I decided to look it up today and it was a few weeks ago). If anyone doesn't know: We got probably the worst case scenario draw for our Pot 2 team, and then a middle of road Pot 3 team and the worst team in the tournament for Pot 4. If we advance, typically, we'd be paired with the first or second place Group F finisher, unless we draw a third place team as group winner. I can't see brackets yet. Based upon cycle trends, and ratings, Group F would be expected to finish with Colombia and Nigeria advancing. Colombia finished third in Conmebol, but drew Argentina in the group stage, not bad. Nigeria finished third in CAF qualifying, while our Pot 3 opponent, South Africa, won that tournament. I'm super curious. What kind of expectations should we have in terms of releases for the tournament? I was pretty disappointed in 2023 with MLS, I imagine it would be even worse this fall, and I'm not sure what European Based players might get released. Any ideas?
I didn't think 2023 was too bad with MLS releases but you have to look at things player by player, club by club. It's not a league thing. In the end, the big result was that Neal and Gutierrez weren't released. This time FIFA just made it terrible. The tournament runs right up to the playoffs. But you have to look at case by case. Here are the MLS players that have a decent chance of making the team. Adam Beaudry, Peyton Miller, Frankie Westfield, Nolan Norris, Noah Cobb, Reed Baker Whiting, Tate Johnson, Luca Bombino, Johnny Shore, Sergio Oregel, Taha Hambrone, Niko Tsakiris, Brooklyn Raines, Benja Cremaschi, Matt Corcoran, Luke Brennan, Ruben Ramos, Zavier Gozo, Kristan Fletcher, Serge Ngoma Then ask yourself which players play a lot for teams that are likely to be in a playoff race by the end of the season? I think Miami loves having Cremaschi be a poster-boy of this team. I don't see him not being released. I also think the Red Bulls have a real philosophy of always lettnig players go. These are the MLS players where releases will be tricky. Miller, Oregel, Westfield, Johnson, Bombino, Shore, Raines With Miller, the Revs have improved a lot. I think his release will be really hard if they continue to have a shot. If they fade, they'll let him go. Oregel is tough to read. Berhalter is sympathetic but he wants to win. Chicago didn't let Gutierrez go last time, but they're under completely different leadership. I can see NYCFC being tough with Shore. But they're playing him and making him a big part of the team, so fair play. Westfield is also interesting. Philadelphia has always been great to release players but Curtin is gone. Ernst has always been okay with it, but Carnell will also have a say. But again, Philly has been great with developing American players, you can't complain either way. Corcoran, I think Nashville is okay with it. Bombino, no idea. The San Diego group has wanted to be on board with young players, so maybe? But Bombino is a loan player too. He does play a lot. Raines, I think Houston might fade from the playoff race. Olsen might be difficult if they're close. Johnson, no idea. I have no gauge on Vancouver and YNT releases. Overall, I don't see Marko getting every MLS player but he will get a lot. As for the Euro guys, we still have to see how preseason and the transfer window shakes down. There could be loans. The key players being: Marcos Zambrano, Keyrol Figueroa, Cole Campbell, Matai Akinmboni, Josh Wynder, Noahkai Banks, Leo Duru, Aiden Harangi, Ethan Kohler, Julian Eystone. If all these players are at the same clubs, I actually think Marko gets most of the players. I think he struggles with Josh Wynder. I think Benfica are going to try to have him in and around the first team. I think he gets Kochen when then makes the battle for all the other keepers unnecessary. The thing is that a lot of these clubs are going to want to get players games early in the season. Even guys like Banks and Campbell have first team minutes, but they were far from regular minutes. The U-20 World Cup is actually appealing to some clubs in that it can give a player 5-6 intense & meaningful games. The issue, of course, is if they go on loan. Then all bets are off.
Adekugbe just went down with an Achilles tear, so he’s out for a long time. Vancouver will unquestionably be in the playoffs. I don’t think there’s any way Johnson would get released.
They let him go for this camp when they needed him. I’m not saying you’re wrong about the facts of their situation, but some clubs are willing to take a hit on the field with results if they feel it does right by their players.
Looks like an ACL tear for Fletcher. Not sure the estimated recovery time, but at the very least, that's a guy who was almost certain to make the team, who now very well may not. On a small roster I saw him as a guy who might make the team as cover across the entire frontline, so this would obviously have repercussions.
Gozo has been excellent of late, so he can basically just replace Fletcher. I was watching a head to head game recently between the two, and genuinely was starting to believe Gozo is currently better. At the same time, you were starting to feel good about the depth if Gozo is like the third winger after Campbell and Fletcher, and now the depth took a hit. I really don’t love the options. Some will suggest Ngoma or Brennan or Ramos. To me none of those guys have the level. Vazquez is another I worry about if he has the level. I’m looking at two categories for a replacement. U-17 team players: Sullivan, Carrizo, Hall, Berchimas. Can one of them step up in a big way in the next 2 months with their play at the first team level and move up a level from U-17 to U-20? Out of favor eligible U-20’s: Olney, Borso. I feel both of these players are good enough, but they don’t get any first team minutes and it’s going to be a hard sell to include them if that doesn’t change in the next few months.
1937206540861046873 is not a valid tweet id I think it's kinda funny that he mentions the U19s, because they're kinda "not really a thing" if you know what I mean -- no CONCACAF or FIFA tournaments at this level. But on the other hand 1) they are a thing in UEFA, so maybe they matter a bit more to European players and 2) I suppose it's just, unsurprisingly I suppose, a reminder that the feeling of progression is important to these guys.
