Made a PBP thread. Play hasn't begun yet. https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/u20s-vs-france-nov-18-2024.2133327/
I have argued with him plenty on Twitter but it's always a good thing when more of these social media accounts are actually doing USYNT coverage.
That's exactly how I look at it. I think for a while there was very little interest in USYNT's except a few USMNT fans on this website might watch some of the big youth tournaments and maybe the occasional club game for these players (and there are probably even a few who watched more than that). Now, it seems like there's tangible interest from a decent amount of people in the up and coming young American players. The interest is good. There's room to agree or disagree with whoever, but having the viewpoints out there is positive and it lets everyone who might not be completely informed but has an interest in the topic to at least sift through what they think makes sense and not and to broaden their knowledge. I don't think more discussion and debate on this is a bad thing, broadly speaking.
Discussion is a good thing. His take on keepers is not, haha! Taking those 2 keepers over Chicago's C. Brady is ridic! Once Brady gets sold he'll get the oversea's reserve premium. Also Cole Campbell is the only one actually getting senior minutes at a top 5 league - only 3 star, when kids on list without are getting higher .... hmmm.
I mean literally nothing is stopping anyone who disagrees with him from making their own lists, making their own videos, commenting to criticize his takes across numerous platforms, etc. "Let a hundred flowers bloom; let a hundred schools of thought contend." no one look into how that turned out lol
People like Tactical Manager are a symptom, not a cause. People mistake confidence for expertise all the time and people tend to listen (especially these days) to exactly what they want to hear. He takes advantage of both of that. I'm just generally more disappointed in people for not trying to learn more and instead being happy with the same surface level takes that don't actually play out than anything. But there are far worse venues that this is showing up in than USMNT fandom. That said, I don't think his list should be taken any more and usually quite a bit less than anyone on here. I've never seen anything from him that makes me think he has any idea of anything.
Doesn't really mean anything. What do we see overseas? Really loud fans that become commentators on social media, and nobody seems to know why they have so many followers. ManU has more of these well-known fan commentators than games actually won this year. The Arsenal ones are seemingly really popular. Same thing as Tactical Manager. Any attention is good attention...............................
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. In no sport does that statement ring more true than football. We see it all the time with managers and sporting directors, why should it be any different with pundits or YouTube personalities? His list is his list, not anyone else’s. We can agree or disagree, that is what makes this sport the best in the world.
You're right. I shouldn't pile on. My bad, I'll admit it! I just get passionate about kids I've seen play in person, which is why I know C Brady is better than his youth Chicago counterpart sold overseas. I also dislike comparing 15-16 yr olds with 18-20 year olds. The extrapolations made often has been statistically proven insane. Cremanschi is a baller (given 1 star) especially in comparison to the boys (given 4 or more stars). But everyone is entitled to an opinion. And as stated by other posters, more interest is a good thing. My opinion (since we're all entitled): cast wide nets from ages 14-17. Star systems more appropriate ages 18+. Don't mix the bag.
And that's what people are doing. Disagreeing. The dude is an anger and hype merchant who, when you watch him for 10 minutes, you realize he doesn't know anything about the sport. No one is contacting youtube to have him pulled down, but it is totally valid to not respect his opinion and say so. People will rant about Alexi Lalas all day but no one can criticize a guy whose analysis stops at "he sucks"?
I'm skeptical about how much him and the other youtuber 11yanks actually watch youth games. Wouldn't take much effort to reach uss's and chairez's lists and make a few modifications here and there (maybe bump up players who have left for Europe and have a reputation for being technical). Like how much MLSNextPro has he watched to evaluate Berchimas or Carrizo? Are they actually watching U-19 Bundesliga full matches to evaluate Albert? In comparison the American Ultras Talk kids usually clearly say when they haven't seen much of a player.
Youth games hah I'm not even sure how much us the USMNT "11 Yanks" has watched... he started arguing with me when I said that Donovan achieved more for the US team than Dempsey, predictably comparing their club careers in Europe which isn't even relevant, got mad when I pointed out the disparity in total number of assists, and then when I pointed out how many goals Donovan (and Bradley who a lot of these social media guys really hate) scored against our biggest rivals Mexico whereas Dempsey had 0 career goals against them, he straight up blocked me lol
Want to know more about Leo Duru? Of course you do. So, I spoke to him at length from the last U-20 camp in Spain.
