Josh Hardin, Reed-Baker Whiting, and Obed Vargas have been called up for a u15 ynt camp that is happening March 1-8. Does anyone have the full roster?
My meager attempts to get it have so far been unsuccesful but I am in support of there now being a place to discuss a broader range of '05s.
This is the same '05 age group for the 2020-2021 U16 cycle. I know they call it "U15" but it's really U16 based on the year the cycle ends. They are currently having a camp in Chula Vista. The early big names are there -- Emmanuel Ochoa, Reed Baker-Whiting, Italo Jenkins, Diego Hernandez, etc. -- but there has not yet been a full roster release.
Finally a full roster of the March "U15" (really U16) camp. Not from US Soccer's site but from SKC Academy. https://www.sportingkcacademy.com/news_article/show/1091876 GOALKEEPERS (4): Elijah Berumen (Dallas Texans), Victor Gomez (FC Dallas), Emmanuel Ochoa (San Jose Earthquakes), Aaron Salinas (FC Dallas) DEFENDERS (9): Nati Clarke (Sporting Kansas City), Iyke Dafe (Houston Dynamo), Hudson Davis (RCD Espanyol/ESP), Pranav, DuBroff (FC Dallas), Edwin Leyva (Monarcas Morelia/MEX), Nolan Norris (FC Dallas), Mateo Pinilla (Houston Dynamo), Diego Rosales (Los Angeles Football Club), Oliver Stafford (New York City FC) MIDFIELDERS (13): Reed Baker-Whiting (Seattle Sounders FC), Julio Benitez (Real Salt Lake), Robert Deziel Jr. (Celta de Vigo/ESP), Darsein Gabriel (New York Red Bulls), Diego Hernandez (FC Dallas), Arvid Lindquist (D.C. United), Diego Lopez (Real Salt Lake), Bryan Moyado (Los Angeles Football Club), Sergio Oregel (Chicago Fire FC), Anthony Ramirez (FC Dallas), Damon Rouse (New York City FC), Nikolas Tsakiras (San Jose Earthquakes), Obed Vargas (Seattle Sounders FC) FORWARDS (10): Gake Akalu (Sporting Kansas City), Isaiah Chisolm (D.C. United), Ricardo Garcia (Houston Dynamo), Josh Hardin (Seattle Sounders FC), Italo Jenkins (Atlanta United FC), Isaie Louis (New England Revolution), Serge Ngoma Jr. (New York Red Bulls), Felipe Valencia (Inter Miami CF), Marcus Vazquez (Real Salt Lake), Robert Willcot (Los Angeles Football Club)
This is the age group with the stacked FC Dallas team which also includes Matthew Cochoran who's a 2006.
If someone took a stab at the first choice 11 for this cycle who would you have? Mine is pretty open but Nati Clarke, Gage Akalu, Reed Baker-Whiting, and Italo Jenkins are written in pen for this team for me.
I'm all for creating more opportunities to discuss players, but framing this group in the context of a future U20 team that isn't going to gather for years seems unnecessarily confusing. Might it make more sense to just make a bunch of birth-year threads? They could be supplemented by relevant YNT cycle threads as those teams actually start to get together.
I wouldn't dream of trying to derail your hype trains! I just want to make sure we all know which thread we're supposed to be reading and posting in when we want to discuss our top 40 GKs -- would hate to be posting about U12s in the U13 thread. Just seems simpler to have, say, separate threads for 04s, 05s, 06s, etc. Then when the guys get together for specific YNT cycle camps or games, we can have threads for those picks/matches/etc.
Since the 2023 cycle is all but over, I figured it was time to start a thread for the next cycle up, since it will technically start fairly soon. (There was a U18/2005 thread, but there was no program, so it didn't get a lot of action.) To start things off as objectively as possible, here's a list of every 2005 or later (later just means Rudisill) called up by Varas and Mitrovic. It's possible I missed someone or got a YOB wrong, so please tell me if so. Obviously the actual pool when it lands will probably look quite different from this, and I may have missed some guys committed to other programs, but it's a start! Arellano Bryan Bajraktarevic Esmir Baker-Whiting Reed Beavers Gavin Bindon Tyler Borneo Caleb Brennan Luke Cobb Noah Cremaschi Benjamin DeMarco Charles Dettoni Grayson Deziel Jr. Robert Diaz Carlos Fletcher Kristian Kohler Ethan Loyola Favian Moyado Bryan Murray Drew Ngoma Serge Norris Nolan Ochoa Emmanuel Ofori Curtis Oregel Jr. Sergio Pasnik Tyler Pereira Dominic Perez Miguel Pickering Nighte Pinilla Mateo Raines Brooklyn Ramirez Anthony Rodrigues Nathan Rossi Diego Rudisill Paulo Scott Tarik Soukup Alixon Suarez Santiago Subachan Ethan Tsakiris Niko Vargas Obed Volmar Fritz Williams Sam Wynder Joshua Zambrano-Delgado Marcos
I was literally just thinking last night about starting a new thread and you came through for us, DMN! Nice!!
We of course won't get it, but the midfield we could roll out there could be one of the better ones we've ever had in turns of just all around quality. The '05/06 crew does seem to lack in terms of offense.
My early favorites from the U17s to play a significant role with the 2025 U20s Figueroa Soma Verhoeven Medina Midfield looks to be loaded. Eligible players will include Vargas, Cremaschi, Tsakiris, Soma, Medina, Buck. A good mix of players who could potentially complement each other very well. We can go with 2 more defensive-oriented (Soma, Vargas, Buck) or 2 more offensive-minded (Tsakiris, Cremaschi, Medina) players depending on circumstances in the lineup.
Fletcher, Ngoma, Figueora and Bajraktarevic look to be the key guys there. Maybe Neri too. Yeah a little more depth would be nice, but I suspect it will be forthcoming.
Here's Marcus Chairez's top 20 players born in '05, posted to his new website, U.S. Soccer Collective: 1. Josh Wynder 2. Niko Tsakiris 3. Ben Cremaschi 4. Noel Buck 5. Bora Aydinlik 6. Rodrigo Neri 7. Kris Fletcher 8. Serge Ngoma 9. David Voute 10. Esmir Bajraktarevic 11. Favion Loyola 12. Santiago Suarez 13. Marcus Zambrano-Delgado 14. Obed Vargas 15. Reed Baker-Whiting 16. Brooklyn Raines 17. Miguel Perez 18. Tyler Pasnik 19. Tarik Scott 20. Grayson Dettoni Source: https://www.ussoccercollective.com/rankings/top-20-2005-spring-2023
Notably while Cavan Sullivan is not eligible for the current U17 team (for which you have to be 15 by the end of the calendar year), he is eligible for the 2025 U20 team (for which you have to be 16 by the end of the calendar year to be eligible).
I would add Kochen (GK). The kid just had his first practice with Barcelona's first team. I believe he will start with the 19s.
One could easily see a few of these guys never playing for the 2005 program, or at least maybe just only getting to a camp or two because of club commitments/preferences or jumping up a level or more with the U.S. program.
As we've seen with this cycle all we can really do is identify the best players. Who actually plays for the U20s is a different story. As a YNT fan I would love to see a change at FIFA that requires clubs to release players for the U20 WC but we know that will never happen.
