Martínez has been bad for 2 years now. i've said this multiple times.

just another reason i said get Guéhi or someone new but we apparently have enough defenders.

a win on Sunday would be a surprise but i am not counting on anything. imo this is just another season effectively dead in December (i don't believe we will earn continental football for next season)

I think this team can win, but i'd be happy with just being watchable for the next 5 months...

Being reported in a few places that interim is Michael Carrick.

Decision made, to be announced Monday supposedly.

    agreed.

i am not sure why now is the time to accelerate the appointment. there is nothing left in the season really.

you'd think United would want to hire the interim to try for the cup run to try add a morsel of dignity to the season.

    too late now

Love the turn of phrase "accelerate the process of appointing an interim"

Its been over a week and this is just for an interim (to replace an interim) for a few months. Teams usually appoint an interim in a couple of days.

    Decisive this is not.

We will end up having 4 managers in around 7 months or so

I mean technically youre right. It would be unprofessional for anyone else involved.

As fans, its hard to believe is all. Anything can happen though.

5th place? We're going to be bottom half after we lose our next two matches against the league's top two teams...

The Carrick thing is ok given the predicament GLIneos have put us in, but some troubling things in these announcements. Carrick will be the yes-man that Wilcox wants and will try his best but not convinced this will end up making any difference.

First is Fletcher having no part in the staff, rumour is that having seen the issue with the players last two games he didn't want to be involved and wanted to go back to the U18s.

The truly scary part of this announcement is that despite having Woodgate, Binnion and Jonny Evans they are also bringing in Steve Holland. Yes, the Steve Holland who was Gareth Southgate number two for all his England time.

Southgate is now up to number 3 in the betting odds. Carrick number 1 and Glasner number 2.

Wouldn't put it past these idiots to be laying the ground for Southgate in the summer. That would be a mistake of epic proportions.

GLIneos also using this management drama of their own making as an excuse it seems to not invest in the squad in January. So all that money available from Wilcox for Semenyo and yet somehow still no money for a midfield signing, not even a loan ...

Yeah read something similar about fund available for Semenyo but not for midfield or other targets which pissed off Amorim.

I have no faith in GLINEOS nor on interim to get best out of this lot. I was watching elclasico and rashford came on as sub at 83 minute mark, same rashford who was one of first name on team sheet. Our standards have dropped and there is gulf of quality between us and rest of the top teams. If we keep sacking managers the cycle will just keep on rolling.

At least with no success in sight, the ownership situation will eventually sort itself out. That's when a true rebuild can begin.

    Agree.

I don't think we have had back-to-back seasons of not getting Europe and that is a real prospect now.

That itself will present a massive challenge to the financial model under these owners and there is little evidence they can offset that with smart recruitment or football management under Wilcox / Vivell.

I fear we will look back at when Amorim sacked as a current high point.

Factually when he was sacked at around half-a-season we were 6th, level with Chelsea 5th and 3 points behind Liverpool in 4th. Furthermore looking at Expected Points table xPTS we were 3rd. Given the narrative of our the majority of the 20 games performances were "made individual mistakes at the back and "didn't take chances created" there is plenty of evidence for progression under Amorim this season.

Reason for the "fear" is that I think the 3-4-3 actually protected us a lot defensively and allowed the forwards to do their thing without having to track back so much and hid some defensive weaknesses in our fullbacks. We conceded a goal under Fletcher in a back four bc Cunha didn't track back and we got overloaded wide. Our wing-backs will now become full-backs so the priority will be their defending as no CBs to cover wide and newsflash Dalot and Dorgu are not that great defensively.

There is a big (bad) deja-vu seeing us play a back four again. Think we will see all the issues we used to see under EtH back again sadly. We will then hit the summer saying we need a CM overhaul (ie two as neither Ugarte or Mainoo starters) and some more reliable defenders, especially full-backs.

Basically, a lot of the individual short-commings will come to the fore again as not protected by the (overly defensive for sure) system.

    Hope I am wrong :(
