You Dunseth talks all the time about these kinds of meetings. Unless I’m misremembering. Haven’t really been listening to soccer broadcasts/radio lately. Thx, Jay!
Dunny talks about this on Counterattack/The Football Show all of the time. He says they have a call with the coaches prior to the games each week. Settings --->AppleTV----> Hide Scores
I sometimes feel like Apple folks read these forums. We got almost every single technical feature we asked for lol
This is TV adjacent. Some more info on the revenue streams of MLS: “Game-day sales of tickets, food and apparel are the team’s largest revenue source. Only 4% of Inter Miami’s annual revenue comes from the sale of broadcast rights, including proceeds of the league’s 10-year, $2.5 billion deal with AppleTV+.”That’s remarkable. (And not good.) https://t.co/cKdMflW7GQ— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) September 19, 2024
Watching the Union on Sunday and what an entertaining game it was to enjoy. To bad they have nothing scheduled for next Sunday.
It's amazing how they own DC United at home and both New York teams away. If they split the league into three divisions (which I think Don Garber left an Easter egg in an interview) that would be a good sign for the Union.
Is it really "not good?" I mean, it's clearly not the norm for an American sports league. More TV money would always be better. But there's something to be said for building the league on the basis of actual, loyal, paying customers. If you're not the NFL and NBA, that seems like a more stable model than relying on the TV rights bubble.
Exactly what I thought. We know roughly what the media contract is, if it was higher share of total revenue it would be deeply concerning.
Arsenal vs Manchester City 837k on USA. I'll never understand why the PL is so popular here. I tried watching for several years. Its boring.
Same for me. The reasons I don't like it is 1. Too predictable. I'm not just talking about the results, I'm talking about the play. You know.. Like the ball always going where the player wants it, guys getting goals that aren't a mess, etc etc. 2. Too predictable. Yeah, the table. I get why it's popular... it's for the same reasons I don't like it. It's not for me.

Soccer at too high a level just isn't good? lol but honestly there is just something about their games - like, upsets do happen but the only way they ever happen is through some kind of really boring 25% possession 1 lucky shot goes in and its the only shot of the game type of way.
The math is pretty straightforward, and if that number is true, Inter Miami has revenues in the $200 million range. As stated, you always want that TV number to go up, but good God, that's an incredible revenue number for an MLS team. That's the sort of number that would be right at home in the big leagues of Europe. I'm sure it's more complicated than that (revenue splits with the league are a completely different beast in MLS, for example), but it's hard to say that Messi has been anything but an unqualified success.
I can actually relate to this. Sometimes I zone out while watching the Champions League because the play is so clinical it almost lacks flavor. Meanwhile in the USL you can see weird bounces and unintentionally interesting scenarios you might not see anywhere else.
And also, this is somewhat true of high stakes games in any sport. Teams tend to try to avoid the mistakes rather than playing to win, and it can lead to ugly games no matter what as both teams try to be cagey.
