Relax. There's going to be a combined sports streaming service next month that will combine Fox Sports, ESPN, and WB Disc.
Ligue 1/2 negotiations not going well. "After months of negotiations during which Canal+ and the Qatar-backed BeIN Sports have turned their backs on French football, there are said to be two offers on the table. The first, from DAZN, is worth almost €400m a season, although Labrune would favour linking up with Warner Bros Discovery’s Max streaming service – a process that could involve Ligue 1 launching an in-house TV channel and that he has estimated would bring up to €600m a season." To me €400M-€600M sounds about right. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...all-clubs-fearing-bankruptcy-tv-deal-ligue-1?
I had read this was already done for US rights and that they were acquired by DAZN and BeIN, which sucks. Ligue 1 has no balls. They have a stubborn idiot at the top and keep getting in bed with partners that shrink rather than grow their business. BeIN and DAZN are a joke option for what won't be the worlds 6th best league for long.
Why TV is so important for the future growth of MLS: The NHL’s revenue breakdown compared to the other big three North American pro sports leagues shows it’s still primarily a gate driven entity. pic.twitter.com/N05ZYk1S3k— Allan Walsh🏒 (@walsha) July 19, 2024
For those keeping track:Telemundo has its #USOlyMNT men's soccer broadcasters on site in France, but NBC does not.It was, I was told, so the NBC crew could call multiple games in a day... but you can guess how much money the network saved.#Paris2024 #Olympics #football— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) July 24, 2024
TNT is back out of the discussion as the NBA rejected their offer as not equal to Amazon's. Lawsuit coming.
Announcers not being in France made that debacle at the Argentina game incomprehensive on NBC. They didn't tell us about the pitch invasions or what's happening at the game simply because they only saw what we saw. Yikes.
It looks like Ligue Un will end up with about €500M a year ($542M), with DAZN paying €400M for 8 matches per round and BeIN paying €100M for the other plus some complex sponsorship rights. Edited: the old deal appears to have been €582M for Ligue Un and Ligue Deux.
All they currently seem to have is: Turkey: Süper Lig Copa Libertadores Copa Sudamericana Africa Cup of Nations Women's Africa Cup of Nations CAF Champions League CAF Confederation Cup Handball EHF Champions League Major League Wrestling MLW Fusion Battle Riot III FIM Speedway Grand Prix BYB Extreme Bare Knuckle Fighting
And byb extreme is replays. Their events are live on fuse. What in the world is battle riot... I did forget the South American stuff, that's worth existing for.
major league wrestling, MLW fusion and Battle Riot are all essentially the same thing. One is the brand under contract, one is their weekly show and one is an annual supercard.
USA Women vs Costa Rica sendoff game got 475k on TNT. LAFC vs RSL got 67k on FS1 USL on ESPN2 Pittsburgh vs Hartford got 81k Nashville vs Orlando City on FS1 got 65k I wonder if there is a point where it would make Fox more money to air infomercials than these MLS games? Maybe in a future deal they only show playoff games or something... or maybe this still works for them because they are spending pennies on the rights and almost nothing on production? (They do still have to pay the announcers)
It costs them less than $200k per MLS match under the $7M contract with minimal production costs. They could save even more by carrying the Season Pass commentary. In fact Apple TV could use them as an infomercial.
