I actually like it because then I know when to look up and see something meaningful happen.

Their endless overhyping worked! I wonder how it compares to US games on ESPN. This rating seems to be in the ballpark of the Confederation Cup match against Brazil, and higher than anything else I can remember.

I would imagine that this is how most people use whiparound shows. Run them in the background and look up when exciting stuff is about to happen.

By "endless overhyping" you mean "marketing"?

Marketing is ads. Comparing Pulisic to Lebron James and Messi is overhyping, and dangerous in case he underperforms. But, so far so good! It's working out.

I think you're taking Cari Lloyd and a random fan on Twitter way too seriously.

Carli represents Fox being one of their analysts, right?

Clark seems to be a bigger influence on ratings than even Messi. Who knew that a million people had any idea where ion is on their cable box? Lol

I don't know much about TV ratings but I am a long in footy watching, and this record 3.1MM seems fishy to me.

After all this was USMNT playing Bolivia in Game 1 of our group stage. A far smaller and less meaningful game than so so many that have come before and will come after. And weren't those other games hyped/marketed comparably?

I did watch it myself, but not live... later on the FS app.

For the week of June 10-16th the highest rated Euros game on FS1 was Slovenia against Denmark with 933k (it was also the only FS1 game AFAIK).

This one was close to prime time, on the big Fox in a prestigious tournament. I am not surprised at all actually.

More info on the ratings bonanza of the US Copa match:

San Diego seem to find its way to the top of the ratings table often. That MLS club there has MASSIVE potential, especially playing in a larger stadium.

People started whining last season that he was overexposed and seems that he's a bit underexposed this season.

you don’t know this at all until we see viewership numbers for MLS season pass games. It doesn’t help that MLS broadcasts games simultaneously, so there’s no way to actually know for certain or even remotely if this is true, at all, even with the numbers, unless they end up clearly in the favor of MLS, because the odds are stacked against them because of that. You have a narrative you’re trying to hard sell, and can’t seem to relent. I’d call that “constant overhype.” Reminds me of TV cable news.

    We have some new ratings.
The most watched Euro game on cable for the week of June 10-16th was England vs Denmark on FS1 with 1.1 million. That made it the 5th most watched sports event on cable for the week (Actually second behind the college world series because WWE is sports adjacent, but not quite sports IMO).
Copa America opened with 1.0 million for Argentina vs Canada.
    Germany vs Hungary 883k.
    Mexico vs Jamaica 854k
    Poland vs Austria 688k
    Ecuador vs Venezuela 692k
    Belgium vs Slovakia 529k
    Croatia vs Albania 393k
    Slovenia vs Serbia 373k
    Scotland vs Hungary 390k
    Peru vs Chile 407k
There are a LOT of people watching soccer right now. The World Cup will be CRAZY in 2026. Expect NBA Finals numbers for some GROUP STAGE games.

Caitlin Clark games keep kicking ass with 2.3 million watching a Fever game on ESPN, but it had a lower rating in the 18-49 demo than soccer. Also interesting - US Olympic Trials on USA had good ratings 400-600k but very low demo ratings. Is the current generation just not longer interested in the Olympics?

https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/20...nama-euro-2024-group-stage-record-viewership/ 2.47 million for USA vs Panama on FOX.
272k for Uruguay vs Bolivia on FS up against the debate which was watched by 47 million. Any time FS2 goes over 100k its actually a big deal for that channel.

Copa America is averaging 1.1 million thus far. up 400% from 2021 and 55% from 2016.

The Euros group stage average 1.05 million, a new record average. Tournament is up 30% from 3 years ago on ESPN. So as we sit here bashing Fox they are growing the game in our country. Go figure.
