He's at least a younger deck chair.

When you phrase it as "he was sitting behind Durkin," the move doesn't sound so good...

Here we are, a new era in the DCU front office and were already talking deck chairs and having the market cornered on backup GKs.

"Transaction: D.C. United signs winger João Peglow from Radomiak Radom in the Polish first division, pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). The Black-and-Red have signed Peglow to a three-year deal through 2027 with an option in 2028"

22 year old winger with pace. Looks like between him and the St. Louis kid we are aiming for murder press as our main tactic.

This can’t be a DP there’s no way he was getting big money from whatever that team is.

Prior to signing with Radomiak Radom, Peglow spent the 2023 season on loan spells with both SC Dnipro-1 in the Ukrainian second division and Sport Club do Recife in the Brazilian second division.

    Second division in Ukraine? LOL

This has the potential of being the worst signing in MLS history. What does this guy provide that you can’t get from some average American player? It ain’t on the field production. He certainly doesn’t put butts in the seats. What are they thinking?! Are we to believe that all of European football has missed this gem? Or, could it be that we are witnessing the biggest dumpster dive ever?

You can literally say that about every early 20 something South American player. No one knew who Diego Rossi was. He put zero butts in seats. This guy obviously has something that the GM likes. Average American players are ass. All hustle, no flair.

    Are you just trolling now?

Incredible how much the league has grown that a starter on a relatively recent youth World Cup winning side is the worst signing in league history.

People on here bitched when new leadership flipped Chris Durkin for 2 starters and allocation money. Can we at least see how this plays out before dumping on it?

I kind of remember Jaime Moreno as a guy that couldn't hack it in Europe and no one knew anything about him until he torched the US in a WCQ. So maybe dial it back. We've tried a team of bargain American workhorses and played like shit.

One of you thinks we should give a clearly bad signing time to inevitably fail before we call them failures or bad signings because this team “deserves the benefit of the doubt.” After all we flipped a bad player in Durkin for some napkins and a bottle of Eucerin lotion. Then Morrissey appears and references acquisitions from the mid-1990s. The offseason is going swimmingly lol

if it stinks like a duck and can’t play soccer like a duck, they stink

So wait until they actually stink before you cast aspersions.

You think the signing of a potential starter on a forgettable middling-to-poor team in 2024 could be the worst signing in MLS history? Take a breath, brother.

If he were a solid player he would have ended up in Poland or the Ukraine.

Yes. Because the league is 30 years old and scouting has never been better. Well, maybe not DCU. No one mines the leagues in Eastern Europe quite like us. Bulgaria, Estonia, Poland, Bosnia, Ukraine. Bring me a Paraguayan playing in Romania asap!!

Meanwhile, the Galaxy go into Brazil and buy Brazilian Gabriel Pec, a regular for Vasco de Gama. Pec is an MLS All-Star, MLS Newcomer of the Year, and wins a championship.

The differences between the two teams are massive. This should not be the case, and yet, here we are.

If anyone here believes that DCU under Levien/Kaplan will spend like either LA club, Atlanta or Cincy, they have access to mood enhancing material that I wish I could acquire. In 2023, DCU was a dumpster fire of overpaid, overage underachieving players assembled by Kasper and Rooney. Because of Kasper's mismanagement of the roster (e.g., vesting Klich's 2025 option on 2023 appearances) Mackay couldn't really move the deadweight in 2024. In the offseason, the club declined the options on the high salary, low production players.

So, what has Mackay done so far in 2025:
Striker: Benteke, Badji, Murrell (set for the time being)
Wide attackers: Stroud, Ku, Pirani, Kajima?, Peglow
Note: there are rumblings about Pirani going back to Brazil - ci vediamo.
Center mids: Klich, Hopkins, Enow, Peltola?, Kajima? Note: DCU trying to move Klich and free up DP slot.
Outside wingbacks/defense: Herrera, Schnegg and Antley
    CBs: Bartlett, Tubbs, Peltola?
GK: Farr, Barraza and the Korean kid?

This roster is far from complete, the transfer window hasn't opened, MLS free agency just started and there remains intra-league trades as well. Right now, Mackay has filled the roster with much younger, lower cost players he believes are MLS quality. Maybe they are or they're not, but I would rather see them run out there instead of Dajome, Santos and Rodriguez. Let's wait until training camp opens before we walk out on the ledge threatening to jump.
