That’s fine. I have no idea who you are referencing, but I’ll take your word for it. I will say this doesn’t generate much interest on my end, and it certainly doesn’t fix any of our deficiencies as a team. I guess we will wait for more (dumpster) signings.

Christian Gomez. League MVP. Catalyst for our last MLS Cup and 2 Supporters Shields. The last time we were any good, he was one of the main reasons.

Definitely not projecting that for this guy so don’t get that impression.

Looks like Akinmboni to Bournemouth is finally happening.

OK - I guess this is good, 'cause a young player is going on to a bigger league - we need to balance this however by keeping some of our younger talent

otoh - is this part of DC United's opting for the MLS Designated Player route instead of the MLS Academy route?

Akinmboni is a dual (tri?) national who always wanted to try Europe. DCU only could sign him by offering to transfer him at some point. This was good business, as DCU gets $2.5M plus percentage of future transfers for an 18 year old with great potential who couldn't crack the starting lineup on a team with a historically bad defense. The young guys who will stick around are the Ku's and Hopkin's of the world -- steady MLS quality players who probably won't or can't get much Euro interest.

I agree given the size of the fee and lack of current impact it's a good deal. We will need to play and develop some of our younger players but the price was right for this one.

Also, it sounds like Klich will be heading home to a team in Poland in the winter window.

I wonder how much of his salary we needed to eat for them to take him.

Also good to hear that we're set at backup goalkeeper for the season.

I wonder if we might see a rare player swap between leagues. We are also interested in Joao Peglow who plays for Radomiak Radom near the bottom of the Polish league. Klich for Peglow would open up a DP slot(Peglow would be u-22 initiative)and a veteran like Klich could potentially help them to avoid relegation as well. Probably unlikely but the move makes sense for both teams.

Peglow wouldn't be eligible for a U-22 spot, as he turns 23 in January.

You’re right. That’s my bad. Still, he’d be a TAM player with that DP slot opening up. That would be a net win roster construction wise.

Why would DC need to eat Klich's salary if they transfer him to another team? The other team doesn't assume his MLS contract for a permanent transfer.

A loan would be a different story, of course.

I have to think that a lower div team in Poland would love to have Klich's talent, but not neccessarily his salary which would leave us eating $$$ to get him out of here. Usually a guy transfers and gets a deal such that he's glad to leave and so is his accountant. Its only when a guy like Harry Mcguire is looking at a transfer to West Ham that is not going to be able to pay him as much that it would have been on the selling club to eat some salary. That's what killed that deal back in the summer of 23, Manu wouldn't make up enough of his salary or buy him out of his deal at a level for him to take the transfer.

Based on a Brazilian post quoting the Cruzeiro coach as wanting to bring in unnamed younger players and the assumption that one of them is Pirani because the Cruzeiro coach once coached him earlier. (The fact that he has experience with Pirani could just as likely mean he doesn't want he as well.) In other words "Schrodinger's Pirani".

For what it's worth, McVey was taken by San Diego tonight in the expansion draft. We get $50k in guaranteed illcommunication money for a player we were gong to ditch anyway.

Our style of play and defensively challenged midfield made it hard to tell how good our central defenders were, but I couldn't really see that he was any better or worse than Bartlett. Use the $50k to buy another goalkeeper and move on.

Don’t know a thing about him. Seems sorta dumpster-esque, but we shall see.
