I don't mind the push to score another goal if it is at the end and you are trying to close out a match. That doesn't mean that you leave yourself exposed on the counter. It helps team confidence to get another goal. Something to build on.

True but 70% of Lucho would be better than most options we had at that point.

as an overall player, sure. But I seem to remember folks only being disappointed in Lucho, definitely not mad or bewildered with the coaches, when he was benched near the end of the season. Bring him back for more of the same attitude with no actual supporting cast to give him hope? Forgive the pun, but I think pass was the right thing.

I would have rolled the dice knowing it could fail.

No. I don't think you would have. Most of us wouldn't. He seemed like the guy who wasn't going to recover any form here at DC.

Cincinnati’s FO and general manager(Albright) actually knew how to build a team around Lucho so he could succeed and flourish as well. I’m happy for the guy. Glad he found a good spot for his skills. That being said, Post PSG Lucho was definitely not worth DP money the way he played for us(or TAM for that matter). I don’t think most good teams wouldn’t have taken that risk either(FCC was even worse than DC), even though it worked out.

I’m more pissed at Kasper for screwing this team with horrible contract options(Klich) and trades for players with inflated value(Dajome). Way too many deals like that. It’s f’ed over roster building for years to come. Ally has his work cut out for him.

Goff reporting that Kasper will be back next season as a consultant, which really validates my decision to drop my season tix.

A bit of tangential good news. Kaplan and Levien have sold their stake in Swansea.

No DC United youth are selected for USA U-MNTs. It's been a while since Akinmboni & Paredes were selected:

I don't know what happened to the above tweets, why they're not "valid." Is there a problem with Twitter or with BigSoccer?

Anyway, Here are links to the respective articles PLUS the U-20s which do have some current & former DC United youths:

    https://www.ussoccer.com/teams/u-16-mens-national-team

The U-19 & U-20 teams have current and/or former United players, but not the younger age groups.

I know there's gong to be a lot of chatter about DCU signing free agent Aaron Long from LAFC. But Jesús Murillo, for my money one of the league's best CBs, was on the bench for their biggest game of the year.

he’s coming off of a leg injury and Marlon is better with playing quick one-twos out of the back. Murillo is the starter.

I’m sure Lesesne is familiar with Long. Definitely makes a ton of sense as a vet leader back there. Tim Parker is another name I could see DC going for. Both ex Red Bull unfortunately but very familiar and comfortable in playing a high press. Some other good options on the free agency list as well. Dave Romney, Daniel Steres, Jack Elliott, etc.

Aaron Long!? I guess he’s better than McVey, but not exactly a great option. I’m sure we would pay far too much for him, as well.

So with Kasper still in the house, this all but a done deal. Just a matter of how much we overpay by.

We will stink again. But there is some hope given that Levien actually sold his Swansea stake. He could sell!

I wouldn't necessarily take the thought approach/wish that one event is a harbinger of the other. Swansea's losses grew from £13.2m in 21/22 to £17.9m in 22/23. Their revenue has declined over £100M since he bought the club. I expect that even with massive debt service, they're in the region of at least breaking even with much better prospects for profit milking DCU and they can quickly make up revenue shortfalls by selling non-voting stakes in DCU on the back of the club's growing valuation. None of these winners in real life who have bought into DCU care about it beyond its tax benefits and principal growth prospects.

Well, at least one team that plays at AF knows how to win must-win games.

They don't even win regular no pressure games, let alone those games we call MUST win or rivalry games. DC United couldn't find its ass with both hands.
