The other group is Belgium, Japan, France and Portugal. So it seems like there should be four pretty competitive games here. https://hns.team/vijesti/27771/najjace-izdanje-medjunarodnog-u-15-turnira-vlatko-markovic/

The prestige of American youth culture should not be underrated as a recruiting tool. There are lots of non-American kids or kids with only the flimsiest of connections who identify with and want to be part of it. As Americans we focus on problems in our society and with our young people. But they set the bar as far as culture goes for much of the rest of the world.
That's why I don't give much credit to anyone (Klinsmann, Gregg, etc.) for recruiting, half the battle is American culture. I remember years ago some older non-American player who talked to Folarin Balogun said he identified as American, something about him wanting to be an American rapper... wish I could remember the specifics but I'm pretty sure that's right. If the US can establish themselves as a consistent top 10 team with consistently deep and successful youth national teams, we're going to dominate the multi-nat recruitment battles.
There a few guys on Youtube that combine travel with exposure to places, societies, ideas, and social ills and one point he has made is hard power vs soft power of societies. Hard power of military, bombs, and coercive activities vs soft power or freedom of expression resulting in film music, dance, ideas, philosophy, science, entrepreneurship, new ideas in all areas the US crushes in soft power where the youth of the world would more often want to be on the side of free expression rather than dictatorial repression. The US does not have a monopoly on it but is clearly one of the worlds most influential purveyor of those concepts.
That, plus playing time and recently, the good young core we have that all seem to like each other and have fun. Berhalter gets credit for scouting, nurturing that atmosphere, putting in the work and frankly, going in with a POV that he's actually looking out for the player as well. He's not selling ice to eskimos at all. He's selling ice cream to a parent with kids; it's a relatively easy sell right now, but you can still screw it up. There are a lot of coaches who refuse to go to the player and instead make them beg. That alone is a point of credit.
The individual manifestations can be quite funny. Back in the day I knew a graduate student from China who was infatuated with Madonna. He kept repeating "I want to be a material boy." It was more than a song to him. The music cab drivers around the world play is also an indication of this soft power. I remember a cabbie in Saudi Arabia who was hip hop all the way.
There a few Nepalize guys who grew up on the streets in India I know from doing work around my house, and they brag so much about the opportunity to make money in so many ways, he laughs and was shocked that 'you can make money walking people's dogs'
we're getting streams I've been informed that the 🇺🇸 U15 matches in Croatia, starting tomorrow, will be broadcasted on YouTube. I am not sure of the channel yet, but I will share it as soon as I have that information. The U.S. plays Croatia at 11:30am EST tomorrow.— Marcus Chairez (@chai_asc) May 14, 2024
Anyone find this stream yet? I just did a few checks in what seemed like obvious places and didn't see it, but I miss things all the time...
I'll just add that this seems to be the YouTube account of the Croatian Fed. On the live tab it has what appears to be the England-Morocco game, which seems encouraging (including for other U.S. games in this tournament). If it looks like it's gonna happen, match thread time! https://www.youtube.com/@hns.family/streams

Maximus Steelman legitimately sounds like an Avenger character’s alter ego. If I ever have to check into a hotel under an assumed name, it’s either this or “Spero Dedes” (CBS and TNT basketball and football announcer).

Of all the 🇺🇸 U15 players on the roster that won this tournament in Croatia, no player increased their grade for me more than Zidane Cadet. Some players here like Turdean have played for the U-15s. Of course there is a Chicago Fire goalkeeper in the call up. https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...oys-u-14-national-identification-camp-of-2024
That's so interesting. That must be his son. I've heard about Deyan once or twice, and it never resonated with me that he was Prekik's son mostly because I've never known Preki's last name, always just his nickname.
